Does the size, as in file size and not pixel by pixel size, make a difference in the render time once uploaded and inworld?
I've heard both yes and no. Some say that once the image is uploaded it is all the same. Others swear that a larger texture file will render slower.

Um, I don't know. Most of my textures are web res or default photoshop size. All are 72 pixels per inch.

As far as I know the answer is no, original file size does not matter. All images are converted to JPG2000 format on upload. The only thing you should have to worry about it pixel dimensions.

Well, I'm tempted to say that in general, the larger the starting file, the larger the compressed file will be, but of course it all depends on how much redundancy can be eliminated from your image. If it's just one big flat-colored square it will compress really well. Though you could just upload it as a single pixel and let the software stretch it
