Help with legs (skin). I don't want help as far as how to do it, just a way to save

Just a way to save endless $10L from uploading over and over and over and over. For me, the leg template does not match the upper body. I am good at art so detail isn't an issue, but I have to upload over and over for the lower half to match the upper half because it seems the lower half template is smaller so it stretches out in game unaligning the stomach features.

Is there a dimension I can enlarge the lower (half greater than 512x512 or 1024 x 1024) to make the stomachs match the upper half? Then when done, put it back to 512 x 512 (and it will now be smaller but in game fit nicely)????

Only problem I really have is lining up stomach features (muscles), the easiest solution would be to figure out a very close resize just to do the stomach, then shrink back down to 512. I just don't know it and would appreciate any small help.

Thanks guys.

-ps, couldnt figure out how to deeppaint/view templates so no need to upload. Tuturial out there?

try chip's templates. they have colored lines that help match up the upper & lower body at the waist. there is also a shaded version of the background to help figure out where to put details.

The texture scale between the upper body and lower body is pretty close. Changing the size of the texture wouldn't do anything. No matter how you sized the lower body texture it wouldn't change the relative scale between the two textures when they're applied to the avatar. The real problem with trying to match features across the waist seam is that the horizontal distribution of polygons at the waist seam is different on the lower body than it is on the upper. On the front upper body waist seam the polygons are wider in the middle and narrower on the sides. On the front lower body waist seam the polygons are wider towards the sides and narrower in the middle.

As you can see by the image below, the difference in size of the side polygons is pretty extreme. There's no easy way to match details across the waist seam. Just pay attention to the template lines.

Thanks guys, I just used smear option in tattoo and it brings a perfect top down into bottom. I move it back in photoshop, and work from there. The templates also help keep me in track in the right areas.

After searching around the forum, this worked out the best for me.

Thanks for the help.

About that $10L upload fee

This little method will save you the $10L upload fee each time you want to test the seems:

How can you preview a skin, clothing item, tattoo, or any other texture on a full size Avatar, in-world, without having to upload (not the tiny window located in the file preview window in the upload dialog)?

Here's how

1) Open the texture you want to test in Photoshop (this will preferably be a clothing item or other texture that maps to one of the 3 Linden supplied templates for the various body sections)

2) Create a PS action set to save the texture to it's corresponding color layer in the SL install (for PC and Mac users this is one of 3 files, either head_color.tga, upperbody_color.tga, or lowerbody_color.tga). The action should include New File, Copy Merged, Resize, and the appropriate directory path if you are running the action on a layered master file. MAKE BACKUPS OF THE ORIGINAL SL CHARACTER FILES BEFORE YOU OVERWRITE THEM!!

3) Create duplicate actions for the other 2 color layers (you can run these actions on any texture you like as long as they end up as 512x512 textures on the color layers)

4) After you have tested all 3 actions in the set for each color layer, open SL in a split screen mode with PS, so you can switch between applications on the fly. Run your Action(s) on the appropriate color layers.

5) Enter Appearance mode to preview your texture on your full size Avatar.

6) Exit Appearance mode (WITHOUT SAVING) to return to normal.

7) Repeat steps 5 and 6 (after texture updates) as many times as needed.

With this method you can edit and preview skins, clothing items, tattoos, or any other textures on a full size Avatar, in-world, without having to upload, within a matter of seconds!!

I hope some of you find this method useful. It has saved me countless hours of frustration, not to mention a lot of L$!!!
