Not sure which forum this should go in...
When you add something to Find Places for L$30/week from the About Land window, I have some questions:
1) The description field seems to become the long text field in Find Places. This field is limited to 127 characters. Is that correct? Is there anyway to put more text in the Find Places version?
2) The image you select in About Land's Options panel becomes the Find Places image. But, these two images are different sizes and different aspect ratios: -- About Land image: 178x117, or 1:1.521 -- Find Places image: 398x282 or 1:1.411
I just assume that what ever you pick will be stretched to match.
My big question is what is the best way to prepare images for this?
I did a nice image (from a SL snapshot, then edited on my computer). I made it 398x282 and it looks great. I prepared three versions of this for upload: a JPG of that image, a 256x256 TGA and a 512x512 TGA (both using high-quality, non-proportional stretching). Only the 512x512 TGA looked decent in either About Land or Find Places. The others were unduly fuzzy (even though they looked very good on my computer).
Further, the Find Places version seemed to be inconsistent. Sometimes I'd look at it and it was nice and sharp. Other times it was blurry.
What's the general wisdom about preparing images for upload for these uses?

Images are saved as powers of two in SL. So, the 512x512 image looked best for that reason; SL didn't have to auto-resize it.

So, I'm right in assuming that SL's auto-resize isn't going to be as good as the auto-resize in my comptuer's graphic programs? (Fireworks and Graphic Converter on the Mac)

From: Zarf Vantongerloo So, I'm right in assuming that SL's auto-resize isn't going to be as good as the auto-resize in my comptuer's graphic programs? (Fireworks and Graphic Converter on the Mac) I think so, that's my strong experience with mah profile pics. Remember that SL takes whatever you upload and converts it into JPG2000 so that's another layer of compression. So best to get it right from the start as a crisp, clean 512x512 Targa file, even if the proportions are different like "178x117", scale it out in an image editor... and SL will scale it back. I've achieved good results with this, as you can see in my Profile.

Just want to interject that while Torley's profile pics do look rad, no argument, profile and "find" pictures are always viewed at a fairly small size on screen so making them 512x512 is overkill. You could probably get by with 128x128 just fine, considering the screen area they take up.</nazi>
