"Girl's top" is very vague. After all, a t-shirt could be a girl's top. What are you asking for?

I've enever seen templates or tutorials for different styles of tops, IE: Halters ect, My suggestion (and this is what I do) is google for the style of top you want to create, and then study it and see if you can re-create it

Ok with straps i use guides to get them straight (I can't draw straight lines free hand lol) to get them go to view and new guide, select vertical and ok, Then select the brush thinkness you want the strap to be and follow the guide untill you get it.

The hardest part with straps is getting them to line up, I find that Chip Midnights templates are best for this has it has coloured edges and seams for matching :)

You can get those here

Like I said tho I google images similar to what I want to create and then try and re-create them, You can also google for tutorials on creating folds ect

If you are looking for a template for swimsuits, tubes, halters etc. Do this. Get a pic out of an online catalog of what you are making. Make that a 60% transparant layer. That way you can see where the straps lie in relation to the SL Upper body template. also the color codes on the templates are great leaders too.

A texture for a woman's top with straps will use an alpha layer to mask off part of the area and make it transparent. Look at the sticky topics at the top of this forum for advice on using alpha textures.

Making good straps requires a lot of trial and error, because the UV Map for the clothing parts is not a perfectly even distribution, and because parts of that grid get compressed or streached as the person moves. I designed a top once with 'spaghetti straps' - thin little straps that looked perfect... But only when the wearer was on a pose stand. The moment they moved, one or both straps vanished, or became crooked.

I use Chip Midnight's templates in Photoshop, and I use a LOT of layers, so I can work on one aspect without destroying anything else. For example, I'll often have the base color for the garment on one or more layers by itself, so I can easily change the color of the cloth, without altering fabric prints, buttons and other detailing colors. The grid layers are ALWAYS seperate from any part of my drawing, so I can hide them when needed.

Note: You can save on download fees by doing all the 'testing' downloads on the beta test grid, where it doesn't cost any real L$ to do downloads. Your supply of L$ in the beta grid isn't infinite, but you start with a lot.

The best way to get a top to work right is to take your preferred clothing template (I like the one that Chip Midnight offers) and import it as-is to use as a clothing item. That way you can SEE how the UV Map grid streaches and wraps around the body on your body shape.

I start by doing a quick sketch of the basic lines of the top over the grid, and import that, with the grid still showing. This allows me to make sure I haven't placed the straps in an area that distorts too badly.

If that looks good, I try making a decent attempt at the top, using the previous rough sketch as a guide. I don't add a lot of detail yet. I import this and get my seams to match, and make sure straps are straight. The grid is still allowed to show on this stage.

Finally I add my detailing, hide the grid layer, and set up my alpha mask, then import what may be the first usable version of the texture. If it looks perfect, all seams aligned, no bad distortion areas, then you're done. If not, see what needs adjusting, fix that, and repeat until it's right.
