about saving things

i downloaded some cloth and a new leather jacket while i was installing. (the downloads of them are from this site) and i was wondering where do i put them so i can wear them in game? i was also wondering how to make my character look like a cat or something? im kinda new to the game....

Anything you want to wear in world must be uploaded into Second Life - there are already some textures and clothes for you.

Basically you upload the texture of the clothing item (you can also upload sounds up to 10s long and animations in bvh format). The texture must be a targa or jpeg (some people will shout you should never use jpegs, and I tend to agree, but you can).

It will save into your texture folder.

To turn that into clothes right click on an inventory folder and choose make new clothes and choose the right sort of clothes. You can then put the new clothes on, right click your avatar and choose appearance. The clothes will look white at the moment. Choose the right clothing item and then there are two white boxes near the centre of the window at the top. They're called Texture and Colour. Click on texture, scroll down through the window that appears and choose the texture you want. Clicking colour can let you change the colours a bit, although it's not always obvious what the effect will be at first.

There are other ways to do some of these bits, but this process shows you as the creator of the clothes. For a jacket using the LL provided textures that's probably not important, but if you're going to be a clothes designer it helps.

Welcome to SL Super! Your jacket should be a texture in a tga format. You will need to upload the texture while in SL. This will cost you L$10.

Then go into appearance and select "New jacket" You will see two white squares on the top left. Drag the jacket texture into the top square.

You may want to use the sliders to adjust the jacket to your liking. You can also change the color to a darker one by using the lower white box, tint. However, this only overlays the darker color over the jacket.

To become a cat, you will need to buy or find a free cat avatar. These avatars change your body and add textures and prims to it to make it look like a cat, wolf, dragon, monster, flying bot, etc.
