This really belongs in Resident Answers, as it isn't related to desing or texture creation at all...
Surprisingly, most clubs in SL do not make a profit. Most club owners do it because they like hosting a social venue, and it actually costs them money to run the club, fund advertizing and raffle prizes, etc. The clubs I know that do make money usually have a merchant area in the club or nearby, that benefits from the club traffic and which pays the bills.
There used to be payments from LL based on traffic on a parcel, and those helped offset the cost of a popular club. But those payments are long gone.

The club itself won't bring in much for $L, but use it as a traffic generator, and decide witch way you'd like to profit from the traffic, and build accordingly.

i usually avoid to put any vendors near clubs, as they makes the shopping area useless, i wish club owners would come with an original way to fund themselve. The traffic they are supposed to bring to the vendors they host is nullified by the insane lag they generate

Are there any clubs that put banlines on the parcel and sell passes to enter? Sounds like an obvious thing to try, that's pretty much how it works in RL after all.

I think this questions been asked over and over in the past couple years. Even when Club Elite (version 2? 3?) made a pretty big deal about closing since it was losing $200 US a month. Realisitically turning a proffit on a club would be considerably challenging. As you correctly pointed out a percentage of tips doesnt add up to much. The Answer most clubs seem to take is to try to go VOLUME . which seems counter productive. If you design a club that costs you $50 US a month - and take 10% you need 10 people working for you making $50 a month to break even. or 20 making $25 etc. (this small scale is actually possible but its quite a bit of work) But if you go off the deep end and run your costs into the hundreds of dollars a month then you need SCORES of employees making more money then is realistically possible in order for their 10% to cover your costs. Aditionally; any venue can realisticly only benefit from, and be a benefit to, a limited number of employees in the club any one time. - otherwise they are merely competing with each other. SO you think this would argue for small clubs that watched their balance sheets - like thats ever gonna happen. *** OHH - yeah thats just to break even. Like the others have said - theres no way to actually MAKE much money on a club. On a time per effort basis youd be better off just sitting in a camping chair.
