I just finished this video tutorial for newer photoshop users who would like to make better selections with less or no halo. A lot of times when we design in second life and other games, we take screen captures and then need to suck the image from the screen capture to make advertising for our boxes or forum posts etc and often the selection can leave a halo around the object. This video shows a couple ways to make selections and then four ways to reduce or remove the halo.

I was chatting with Starley about this subject earlier today and one way to make it even easier to pull images from screen captures is to leave anti alias settings off on your video card. This seems counter intuitive, but AA softens the edge, making the initial screen capture smooth and pretty, but makes magic wand selection, much more difficult. It is worth testing both ways to see which you prefer.

anyways, hope the video is usueful. :)
