Save it as a Targa (*.tga) and go to File -> Upload Image (L$ 10)

That plain grey is the default texture, saying that the images haven't loaded yet. If it persists (say 5+ minutes) you've got a problem, or SL has. Texture loading has been a bit creaky recently, normally it's faster than this.

To wear them you need to make a new skin (right click an inventory folder and choose New Body Part> New Skin)

Then wear the skin, and then go to appearance.

Click the buttons to get to your new skin, there are three white boxes just to the right of the button space, near the top of the appearance window.

Click each of those to choose your textures. I think you can also drag the textures from your inventory on to the white boxes, although I don't do it that way personally so I'm not 100% sure.

Click save... then close. All done!

I can find one slider to change the color a bit.. but not the right one is there a way to set an rgb color.. or is there a color picker somewhere or can i perhaps tile a small piece of texture on skin ?

If you're working with anything other than a solid flat color next to the seems (like the one on the neck in your picture), you will need to tweak the texture on the head to line it up with the texture on the upper body. There are plenty of methods to doing this. There are distortion filters in PS like Liquify, and other 3rd party filters that do similar stuff. There is also hand editing with burn, dodge, and saturate/desaturate. These are some of the more popular methods.

I wouldn't try to use the skin slider adjustments to match the skin color unless you're using a uniform transparent texture over the entire avatar. You'll never get perfect results.

Tiling a texture over the avatar surface is not possible unless it is scaled and tiled first in the image editor. That defeats the purpose.

Ok but the problem.. my texture for the head has the same color on tha bg.. but when i upload it it becomes transparent on the parts where the skin color forthe slider reveals?
ow can i upload it then so the game does not make it transparent when i upload it ?

You're better off doing fully opaque skin textures. Trying to get an opaque head texture to blend gracefully with the default skin is enough to make anyone tear their hair out. The only thing that needs to be transparent is the upper right corner of the head texture where the eyebrows are located. Everything else should be fully opaque. If you're trying to make opaque textures but they're ending up semi-transparent in SL then you'll want to double check the alpha channel on your textures. Make sure the areas intended to be opaque are completely white in the alpha channel and not a shade of gray.

Great looking work so far, Krizzz :)
