Another Gimp question

I finally got gimp up and running..but if you can take a look at my template..its so dark i can barely see the lines..is it suppose to be this way? If not how do i lighten it up so its more in line with Photoshop or Painshop pro?

Looks like you've got the white part of the background (the white part behind the outlines) set to transparent. Were you perhaps working on the background layer (on the template layer), and chose white in the 'color to alpha' tab? That would have made it look like this. If you want to avoid that, add another layer (a new layer, so you have 2) over the template, so that you aren't drawing on the template itself- then any changes you make won't affect the background. Or, if the template has multiple layers already, you may just have the background layer set so it isn't visible-- try clicking control+L to see the layers, and see if any layers are set to invisible. Hope that helps!

Hi, thanks for responding. No, I always back up a copy template incase i screw up..so this one i just opened and it was like this..but if i put it in photoshop or paintshop it shows up as it should.. Any idea how to fix it? I'll open up some of my other templates and see if its the samething..

I double checked..all of them show up dark like that. Im sure its a setting or something in gimp..i haven't even used gimped yet aside from opening the file up..so i dont think its anything I did.. Anyone know how to correct this?

I say you're up late, Its 8AM here..

You forgot about it being on a laptop that that it has any relevece to the is. Make shure the background Layer is Visable and not hidden. the file should have a lot of layers in it. <Remembers that need to install gimp on to my laptop that I just rebuilt>

The eye Icons next the the layers in the layers window need to be on if you whant to be able to see them.

As they said - check what layers are set to visible. Here is a pic of a template with all layers set to visible.

You can deselect them by clicking the eyeball.

Work by creating new layers and layering the templates over them, or under, whatever works best.

Remember to delete out the templates before you save your final product.

Oh and I never work fullscreen, I need to see The Gimp panel and the tool boxes you can drag off to the side for brushes etc.....

Ok guys, I doubled checked, all the layers are visable..its really confusing im not sure why my back ground is so dark....here's a another pic..anymore ideas?

Never mind i got it. I had to move some of the layers around..move a few up the list a few down the list and everything started showing up again..so i duplicated it and save a copy just for working in gimp..strange..Thanks for the help though

Probably the touchpad icon in your system tray. Don't see too many of those on desktops...
