A Question on the ethics of reselling hair/shoes...

I've now had this account for nearly a year and over that time I accumulated several items like hair, jewellery and shoes that I can't wear, because they don't suit my AV shape or whatever. So I was thinking... I was going to sell ready-made AVs, and was thinking I could maybe bundle bought accessories like wigs and shoes into special "one-off" packages.

I won't of course sell the avs for any less than buying the items, and each item will be listed on the item description so that it's obvious. The avs would have a shape, skin and clothing of my own design, but would just be "trimmed" with the items.

I can't see this being a problem, but I know reselling items hits a nerve with people sometimes, and I just wanted to toss the matter up into the air.... I'd would especially like feedback from makers of wigs and shoes about how they would feel if it was their stuff I'd bundled in... :-)

Thanks chaps. :-)

Hi Jezabel,

I think the big problem with so many of these issues is a failure to just ASK the creator for their permission. Assuming for a moment you are speaking of a no copy/transferable item that would be included in a one of item, My guess is the overall number would probably be flattered, impressed you contacted them, and may have no problem with this especially if you give credit where credit is due.

Conversely, you may find you got ahold of something that was released with the wrong permissions or exploited, not by you - but by the person you may have bought from or was in a give away box that was complied by someone other then the specific creator. You might find yourself thanked for your honesty even more then you know.

In the big scheme of things its not really what we think, but what the specific creator thinks, and what their intent was when they sold the item.

As a final thought, if anything you are trying to clear out of your inventory has "no creator" then you can be assured it was a linden bug and perhaps not the best thing to include in your avies for sale.

I agree with a lot of what Rose said - I don't have a problem with people selling my stuff on if they no longer use it, or giving it away for that matter, but that's just me.

It would be polite to say to people that created the stuff that you'd like to, would they mind though. They may also ask you to do something like not sell for more than their sales price new, or for a fixed percentage, or include landmarks to their store or similar, which I'd also find quite reasonable and try to do if I was in your shoes.

You can't actually be sure of this. It's possible to create "no creator" body parts quite easily - if you don't make one first and then edit it. No creator can also be found when several people have contributed to making an item for sale - a friend sells (with my full blessing) a 'no creator' item to which I contributed 1 prim (he contributed about 300), but to which I also contributed about 10 scripts. It's really his baby, I just did the scripting and stuff, but the one prim I provided left it as showing no creator because there's not an option for "several". I'm not really sure that's a bug, and I'd normally assume it was, but it's not 100% certain it's a bug.

In my opinion, if you bought an item that has permissions allowing resell/transfer then you have the right to do so. You bought it with that expectation; and the Creator released it with that expectation.

If you have legitimately purchased an item, and it is transferable and sellable - it is yours to transfer and sell as you please.

While there are distasteful side effects in extreme cases (such selling otherwise free items to newcomers) - I see nothing wrong with what you are doing.

In fact, if you are successful - you'll have to buy more items from the original creators, thus enhancing their businesses too.

Soon I shall be discontinuing some of my store's products, and for those who purchased those in 2005 there is a good chance their resale value may increase dramatically (presuming folks trust that I actually discontinued them... still working on how to assure that).

I'm not telling which items, yet. :)
