Hi , simple question i hope a square prim is 7 meters high . I`ve made a texture tile for a interior room . Moldings top and bottom with a chair molding . Simple enough. Here comes the problem . over a door I have to reduce the hieght of the prim . i`ve tried different ratios but for the sake of this thread , lets say it`s by half . 3.5 meters You would think ,, or at least i would think the mapping is reduced by 2. vertical repeats were 1.000 in the 7meter prim ... why would the 3.5 meter prim not be .500 ? If i could understand better the math , i could simply use a ratio and proportion formula? , punch that baby in a calulator and walla no fuss no muss . Me ponders how many others have had to deal with this time sucker. signed , Befuzzeled )

The 3.5 meter prim would be .5 repeats just as you think it should be. Are you also adjusting the offset value? What are you getting that's off? Is it texture scale or alignment?

I am totally clueless about ratios, numbers but what I have been drawing on number grid and using prims with numbered grid with different numbers up to 256 and exploring putting the textures exactly on the grid numbers. I have made rooms and doll faces, including a bikini this way. Not sure if this would help you but if you need a numbered grid I can send you one. Even with the grid its tricky.

I also have a prim with a door in and a door frame around the door with a dado rail, coving and a skirting board as an example for you to see.

flat prim texture mapping

Hey ,, ,thanks for the fast reply guys . i`m off worktoday and trying to finish this house i started . i did a test for the sake of this thread . took some pictures . Picture one is a 10 meter high flat prim with a 512 X 512 texture . Repeats are set at 1.000 pic 2 is a 5 meter high prim , repeats are set at .500 . Pic 3 is somewat adjusted at .875 repeats . I did cheat and just raised up the prim next to it instead of mucking around with offests. As you can see in the 3rd pic . the crown molding is distorted even though size wise it`s close to it`s bro next to him. still befuzzeled

Daniel
In a word you can align it after meddling with the offsets but you have one problem that will make it difficult, your texture is not square when you originally designed on it PS or other software.

Pic 2 is exactly what you want. The texture is the same scale on both prims. The only thing that's off is your offset values. By default SL centers the texture on the prim surface. If you have the repeats set at .5 and don't adjust the offset value then you're getting the center 2 quarters of the texture with the top and bottom quarters not visible. Adjust the vertical offset by -.25 (I think. If that doesn't work, go +.25).

Chip , you`re exactly right !! . The crown molding and the baseboard molding on this texture run together from top to bottom so it is hard to see where the baseboard stops and crown molding starts in offsets . my mistake . It would be so easy for me to blame a laggy sl this morning . It`s so bad to get stumped on something so simple . Thanks again Larrie for the help in game.
