New editing texture overlay

It looks like there is a new texture overlay when editing textures on the prim. It shows fine at 1 to 1 but when more repeats or planar they are covered white.
When using a light texture the details are lost in the white overlay making difficult to see whats going on. I have to de-select it, check, reselect etc.

There must be an adjustment in the debug settings some where or a way to get around it.
I liked the old way and don't like this!

Anyone got ideas?

I have noticed this as well. Whatever is going on is making the texture look MUCH lighter than it really is while that face is selected.

One reply. Everyone else must be very happy with it then. I don't see how.

Is it just the Linux client? 1.19 or not?

It's not just Linux, it happens to me on Windows, too. And I believe it's a fairly recent "feature".

It sucks. Bad.

It's not that "Everyone else must be very happy with it", it's that 99% or more of SL residents have no interest in these forums :)

I see it on a Mac too. Also for the first time when I have an object in edit those 'edit lines' move independently or for a better term shift away from the prim when I'm zooming in or changing viewing angle, makes me go cross eyed.

I despise the new texture overlay, it's REALLY annoying when texturing over a light or white layer, and trying to judge alignment next to other prim. Is there a setting somewhere to turn this off, or switch back to the old method? I mean come on, what was wrong with the old method?

Btw, for those that have no idea what this thread is about, here's a screenshot.

I think it might be with the 1.19 client, which judging from your picture is what you are using. I have seen it too. I have not seen it happen with the 1.20 RC, but then you have to deal with other annoying UI colors unless you re-skin your UI.

It's in the 1.20 for linux too.
I liked the old one, you could easily see repeat patterns. This is plain bad. It must be reversed.

Does anybody like it? And why?

This is very annoying. Especially when lining textures up on my wonky stuff.

I did find a very odd work around with 1.19. Turn off the on screen friends notification....as this bug/feature is only active(for me) after a friend comes or goes.

I have no idea why these two things are related.

While trying to change settings in the debug menu I managed to make all the default pine textures fully black. Had to remove SL settings (dot secondlife folder) to fix that one.

Here's the rub: I have now tried logging onto another grid (OpenLifeGrid) using the same client and the old overlay works there. This must be server side so I guess there is no way to fix it in the client.

Here's a another to add to sam's screenshot.
You can see how difficult it would be to line odd shapes over different prims.
They must have asked random people in the street if it was a good idea.
Or maybe it IS a bug Alisha. Hi ho, Hi ho it's off to jira we go.

It seems I am wrong. The Linux 1.20 RC is normal. Guess I have too many clients downloaded and got mixed up. Sorry if it was misleading.

Not a feature I believe

Everone hates this "feature" - do believe I saw something in the help wiki about kowing it as a bug - really need to get this one fixed. I also note that it is intermittent - sometimes it is ok for a bit and then the white ghost overlay comes back.

Today it was far more visible to me than it had been while building with the standard 1.19 client. (not the release candidate). It was REALLY annoying, because I couldn't tell what color I was tinting things to until I de-selected them.
