When I paste in the same fabric sample on the front and back of the skirt template, the colors are always off when I make the skirt and apply the texture ingame. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks!

One thing you have to take into account is that SL's lighting system will change the color slightly. When you're applying textures to clothes it's usually best to force daylight so you can get a good look. Also make sure that if you have local lighting turned on, you aren't near any sources of colored light that might be tinting what you're seeing.

To add to what Chip said: as I recall, when you go into appearance mode you are lit with a special light, as opposed to just the ambient light -- so that may help you see the 'true' texture color as well.

texture colors

Thank you for responding to my question but I'm not really sure this answers my question.
If I create a skirt in photoshop with the exact same piece of fabric for the front and the back, how do I have any control over that when I go into appearance mode ingame? I know I can change the colors ingame but I can only change it for the whole piece of clothing - not just the front or the back. If I'm missing something please let me know. Thanks so much! |

Abbie,
If I may, what Chip and Nicola were saying had nothing to do with the ability of the player to control colors in-game. They were referring to the fact that depending on the lighting conditions, the front and back of any object in SL (including a skirt) may appear radically different, even if they are the same texture and color. They were theorizing that perhaps the reason you are seeing different colors on the front and back of your skirt is because your avatar is in an area where the lighting is uneven. So, the question then becomes, do you see this phenomenon everywhere you go? Also, have you tried turning off local lighting? Have you tried forcing noon? Have you tried multiple skirt textures? If you've done all these things, and you are still seeing the same problem, I would suspect that you've got some kind of glitch in your graphics card. I'd be curious what type of card you are using. Also the possibility exists that mybe you have a semitransparent layer on top of one side of your skirt template. Make sure all layers are turned off except the exact ones you need before saving out to TGA. |
