Ok this may not be the right forum for this but since this is my favorite forum I thought I'd share this. OMG I got a new computer yesterday and nothing on SL looks right lmao. I'm pretty sure it looks like it's supposed to look now but deception is a great thing lmao. Even my avie isn't as cute as I always assumed she was. I had to redo a few pieces of clothing because there are details there that I never saw on my old computer. Whew today has been culture shock day for me. But I will say the water is bluer and the sky is nicer. I guess I'll adjust over time but boy what a day it's been today!

I often wonder if my pc at home views SL as it should. I have emailed postcards to myself and looked at them at work and have noticed a definate color difference. A few pics I sent myself looked especially horrid because my hair base was some odd off red/pink color and my hair was black, and in world it looked fine at the time. So I wonder if I am seeing things correctly on my pc.

Few people even know that there is such a thing as monitor calibration, and it is rather easy to do a rough job which is often a vast improvement if you have never done so.
Here's Goolge's I'm Feeling Lucky for Monitor Calibration. |

I'm running on a Compaq 151FS monitor... this shit must be like 15 years old and keeps on ticking. Well, it is getting a little blurry, but my eyes are probably worse than the monitor

All of my monitors are LCDs now (better for my eyes). There's a large color difference between CRT and LCD monitors if you're not used to it.
Alternately, monitors themselves come with varying "factory defaults" in terms of colors, similar to television sets. This is par for the course, and after some toying with the options, things should look just right. ![]() _____________________

I notice a huge difference between my two montior's. I have two set up on the same computer.
When I do anything in photoshop, I have all my tools on the one monitor then the workspace on the other. I'll choose a color from one side, paint on the other side and think hummm that's totally not the color I want. _____________________

About the postcards... Did you see Torley's rant about that? (S)he (I'm confused...) commented on how the JPEG compression was bad, and detail was lost in gradients and such. So don't use that as a benchmark.
I really don't seem to have this problem... I've always known how to fiddle with the color and contrast on my monitor, so if something doesn't look right, I change it. _____________________
