Anyone seen Photoshop actions or some program that would automattically make a single file single frame TGA from an Animated GIF or animated PSD? which I could uppload into SL?

Flipper's got a little utility that automates the process of taking each frame from a timeline and tiling them onto a single canvas. I've never used it since I always do this by hand, but from what I hear it worlks well. It used to be on SL Boutique as a free dowload, but since the site was revamped I can't find it. If you search the site a little more extensively than I did, you might find it, or you could try asking Flip directly for it.

If you are using macromedia flash you can get every frame too.

It will export multiples frames, right? But not all frames in one image does it?

Pretty much any 2D web animation program will allow you to extract all the frames from an animated GIF. ImageReady, Flash, GIF Animator, there's a million of them, ranging from expensive to cheap to free. As for output to a single sheet, the only automated tool I know of to do that is the one Flipper made that I already told you about. It's really not hard to do it by hand though. It only takes a few minutes at most.

The page where Flipper has his utility is now here.

It runs from the web, so there is nothing to download, and it's cross platform. I have used it, and it works perfectly.

Give it a try!

(It's also below, but since the SL Boutique site and the URL for the utility have changed since this was originally posted, I decided that there's no reason not to remove the old link, and post one that actually works at this point in the thread. :D )

Not exactly hard to do by hand, but I usually compile the same animation various times till perfection, but every time I do that I have to split it to multiples files, and open a new canvas, paste each part to the new file, and even doing that sometimes one or another frame goes a pixel misplaced, so I have to restart over and reupload it into SL. If it was only once it´s okay, but doing it 10 times for one animation really isn´t much of fun.

Im still looking for that Flipper thing, I´ll have to PM him inworld for that, I guess there´s no more at SLboutique .

i use a (little flakey) program for windows called avi2bmp, why crap out your images by reducing colors to 256, most animation programs support avi export too :)

minor flakes

1 bitmaps can only get so large, this normally isnt an issue in SL ive gotten thousands of frames (really really tiny ones) within a 1024x1024 sheet

2 only works with uncompressed avi files .. again most animations for SL are not going to be that large in avi format, but with my experiance with video editing its really ez to tromp up a 20gb file with a few min of 320x240 30fps uncompressed video (course with cd quality sound)

3 only works correctly if you maximise the window, dont ask me why but theres usually a good chance it will screw up the bmp if the window isnt atleast 2x as large as the frames displayed in it, but its ez to hit the max button, works perfect everytime then

since i found it ive used avi2bmp for all my animation needs, its quick and free, doesnt require anything to be installed and does the job perfectly every time

bout the only thing it doesnt do is transparency, but if you do it right thats ez enugh to take care of in post paint
