Poser 6 or Avatar Lab?

Hello,

I am relatively new to 3d modeling/texturing and very new to SL. I was wondering if anybody has any experience using Poser 6 or maybe Avatar Labs (which seems a much scaled down version of poser for just avatar editting instead of complete scene making), in regards to uploading textures/skins/etc to SL. Most posts and docs I read around the SL forums and support areas refer to Poser 5 or even 4. Can the SL mannequins downloaded from the download samples pages be imported into either?

On the same note, anybody know of a free 3d modeler for avatar editting that is (relatively) compatible with SL and their sample mannequins?

TIA,
-Guaire

PS: Using Gimp 2.2 for Windows for basic editting of graphics.

As far as I've heard Poser is the only program that can import animations and poses to SL... But I may be wrong..

A quick check on Google strongly suggests that Avatar Lab is not what SLers need and maybe not be want anyone needs.

The Second Life Help wiki at secondlife.com/help has a section on third party programs.
at 3rd Party Programs list in SL Help Wiki

Poser 6 will work. Older versions of poser also work. You might want to avoid the first release of Poser 5, it had a lot of bugs.

I believe there is a "Poser Artist" that may work for SL at a lower price.

Blender is a free program that can be made to produce animation files for SL.

Yep, if you can find a cheap copy of Poser 4 Artist, it has all the functionality you'll need, and will be quite significantly less expensive than poser 5 or 6. Been using it for months.
