Hi guys i've been looking into the idea of creating a small area of clothing for males and have now come across a few snags. I'm unsure of how too make decent silk shirts. I've browsed through these forums and have found some on jeans, the dodge and burn tools too create highlight even on polo shirts but nothing on silk shirts.

I've even considered using a silk shirt template from Xstreet but they are so expensive and i can't afford them so i'm going too have too venture onto this on my own.

So please if anyone can offer any advice on textures, tutorials or general tips that might help please do.

Oh i'm using Photoshop CS2 or i have Gimp

Thanks Howl

I'm guessing what you want is a silk satin shirt tutorial -- silk in of itself could look many ways from dull to shiny depending on the weave.

The Second Wave blog has a good satin tutorial:

For a shirt, I'd create the shadows and highlights, and then start at step 6.

Creating a silk texture is a bit tricky and I've only seen a few that look good on the grid. I've used the tutorial (that Betty mentioned above) before and even though its a great guide for getting a silk look, your resaults may very.

What I mean by that is, the effect I achieved using the tutorial looked fantastic in PhotoShop, but when I uploaded the final images to SL, all of the highlights looked washed out and the whole garment looked pretty crappy. I tried all sorts of ways to make the effect look right in SL, but no matter what I did, the visual just didn't work.

Perhaps it's just my poor skill of using the tutorial, but I followed it to the letter and then some... just didn't work for me (and I know a thing or two about working in PhotoShop). The best silk effects I've seen on the grid have all been hand drawn/painted, so I suppose that's the next step for me.

Anyway, good luck and I hope you find a method that works for you. ;)
