Is there any way to align a small squared logo STRAIGHT on a flattened torus? Seems like its not possible to precisely align it and keep it straight....is it?

If your flattening on the Y or Z axis, then it's pretty easy. If it's the X axis, then it's a bit more complicated, depending on where you want it.. Either way, it can be done. It just takes a bit of work counter-distorting in Photoshop, so that when it's distorted on the prim it will straighten out into a square.

I'd suggest you apply a grid texture to the torus, so you can see exactly how the texture wraps around the prim. Robin Sojourner's test pattern is great. Apply it to your torus, take a snapshot, and then use it as a reference to best see how to do your counter-distortion.

If you want a perfect square on a rounded surface, there's no quick way to do it, but it's not exactly hard either. It'll likely take some trial and error to get it how you want, especially since it's your first time doing it, but you'll get it.
