OK, so maybe you guys have known about this for a long time, but I just started using it recently, and its so awesomely easy to use!! I was using GIMP, PSP, Photoshop before, and findf myself using Paint.Net mostly now. The built in photo effects are actually really cool!

No, it's not as good as Photoshop, PSP or GIMP. But it is extremely easy to use. Supports TGA and alpha channels. The photo effects are rather good....but all the other major programs' effects are too. It's just easier. I find myself taking some of my GIMP made textures into Paint.Net for some of those easy to use effects, then resaving to take back into GIMP. The softglow for photos is my favorite.

I have been using pannt.net since it came out, nearly all my tutorials are now made using paint.net, it also supports alot of photoshop effects and custome brushes, it was made as a replacement of sorts of mspaint, which s why its easy to use, but not officially made for it.
I love it. i even use it for my sculpt maps and its great for simple things. still use cs3 extended for the good complicated texturing, but i love paint.net.

I routinely recomend this program to people that do not have the tools and who are just learning to create or modify textures. The concepts are easily transferable to PS or Gimp once you understand them. It amazes me now how many free programs are available. There really isn't any barrier anymore for those who want to learn, except effort that is.

I am still learning how to use paint.net but it is more intuitive and seemed easier then my attempt with Gimp. Still tend to use Photoshop more though even there still alot I don't know how to do.
