i am pretty new to photoshop, but learning quickly.

my biggest peeve is not being able to find out how to move an object i paste onto the screen. is there a way?

i seem to spend countless hours "stepping back" what i just did so i can paste an object just where i want it, then i have to erase it, paste again, erase, paste.... until i finally get it right. sometimes i can spend a full 20 minutes on just one little spot, and then to paste another item and go through that whole process again..... i can spend DAYS making just one shirt.

how do i slide a pasted picture around the template until i get it placed just where i want it?

You can use the arrow keys, once you've clicked on th arrow on the tools (like in the pic).

Or click on the arrow thing on the tools, like in the picture, and use your mouse to move it.
If you tick the box of "show transform controls" you get a bounding box, and you can resize using those boxes.

Very simply, if you use layers to build a composite of many image components you will be able to freely move all of those parts without undoing anything. Look for the layers tab in Photoshop, and from the drop down menu there select "New Layer", or you can do the same from the "Layer" menu at the top of the screen. Paste each new image onto a new layer.

At the top of the toolbox, see the button that looks like a black arrowhead with a cross-hair in the corner? That's called the Move tool. Click on that button to select the tool, and then you can drag your pasted object (or any other item) around the canvas.

You can also use the arrow keys, as has been mentioned. Keep in mind, you'll need to have the Move tool selected in order for the arrows to move anything. Remember, the keys and the mouse always operate whatever tool is currently in use.

To keep items freely movable, keep each one in its own layer. Layers are by far the most most important feature of Photoshop, and of every other graphics program that utilizes them (which is almost all). It is almost impossible to imagine doing graphics work effectively without using layers. So if you haven't been using them, start now.

If you don't know what layers are yet, look it up in your Photoshop Help. There's a whole section all about them. You'll find it pretty informative.
