A question for the seasoned texture artists out there

I am creating a lovely fitted dress, and I have an issue with the texture of the bodice. This is happening...

I have the shirt to the longest possible length, I have checked and double checked my alpha channel to ensure that it goes well below the length of the shirt to the point that the colour shows up on the arms, and still, the texture does not join properly with the pants. What am I doing wrong?

I finally solved it by putting the shirt and pants on the jacket layer and they match up great, but I'd like to put them on the shirt and pants layer. :/

Seems like a bug with the shirt layer? Does the same thing on the undershirt layer :(

I also make fitted dresses, and noticed this recently on one of mine. Usually I do a bodice with a skirt, but in this particular case I'd combined the bodice with glitch pants instead. I tried everything and could never completely get rid of it.

One thing that seemed to help a little was to make sure I ran some color over the borders of both templates (bodice bottom, pants top) after reducing my template to 512x512 just prior to uploading. (Reducing the template by half distorts the pixels slightly) However, this did not completely rid me of the problem.

The only good news I can mention is that everyone I showed it to in-world said they couldn't see the problem, unless they focused in on the area VERY closely after I'd told them exactly where the problem was.

BTW...your dress looks like it will be very lovely...lots of nice detail. GL :-)

Thanks :) I will just have to put the bodice texture on the jacket layer for the time being I think, I tried everything else to get the thing to work. I don't see why anyone would want to wear a jacket over the top of this particular, very eyecatching low clevage top, but you never know. Maybe I'll include the shirt layer with a warning :)

okay i haven't tried this with skirts but i have done it with other stuff. Make a pant layer and extend upper body drawning onto the pant layer and then stick the skirt on top this might work. I did this for something else but I can't remember what it took me forever to get right but in the end it did work. I have yet to make any skirst so um hehe i'm not sure if this will extend to this or not but if you make the pants into shorts and just draw the upper body stuff a bit onto the "shorts" well i would make it the entire length of the shorts i guess and then make a skirts you might avoid that problem.

*scratches head as he can't remember why he tried to solve this problem before but it was not for skirts at least he doesn't remember it being for skirts*

Thanks for the link Namssor, that saves a bit of head scratching. It really does seem like a bug that perhaps LL needs to address on their alpha channels for the system clothing. Makes sense that the jacket layer doesn't have the issue when you think about it like that, since the jacket is adjustable from a much lower point than the seam between pants and top, but that the shirt and undershirt are adjustable from that point upwards.

Annoying.

Yes, it would be nice if LL fixed a few things regarding the avatar and texturing it. Or, if they don't feel it's that important to fix, maybe add the generalized texture layers. That would make a nice workaround to this annoying bug. Until then, I work around the issue by avoiding the underwear, shirt, and pants layers as much as possible. Basically I stick to skinning, and if I do make any clothing that is skin tight (like underwear), I either avoid the waist seam, or bake it directly into the skin layer, or put it on the jacket layer.
