gaps between shirt and pants driving me nuts!

I am going nuts here. I am seeing a slight gap between the pants and shirt on the dress I am working on. At first I uploaded a .png file and no matter what I did could not get the gap to dissapear. Then I decided to figure out how to upload a .tga file. I read through the alpha channels thread on the top of the board and then followed Robin's tutorial, using the solidify filter, uploaded my file and still get the gap. I went back and painted further past the bottom of the template and then looked at my alpha channel to make sure that the bottom was totally opaque and it is. What am I doing wrong? Here are a couple of pictures so you can see what I'm talking about.

I don't see a gap...

but one thing that happens sometimes, is in Edit Appearance, check the 'shirt bottom'. It sometimes defaults at not quite all the way down. I don't think this is your problem because then there is more of a gap...but check the shirt bottom and the pants waist to make sure they are maxed.

Edit:

I stared at it for a while longer and I do see it now, make sure that you extend the 'fabric' layer above the pants top and below the shirt bottom a little when painting them onto the template.

It's an SL bug and there is nothing that can be done about it. There is a JIRA entry concerning it, but it's never been fixed. Even happens with system clothes, which is how you can tell its not something you are doing, it's a bug in the system.

Thank you. I was beginning to think that might be the case. Do you know why I don't see the gap on all clothing? Some things I've made have it and some don't, and I tried on clothing from other designers to find that some had the gap and some didn't.

it's odd because personally I have never seen it on my own things, I would be interested to know if anyone else had seen it where I do not. I had a hard time seeing it on your picture but meh...old eyes :(

As far as I know, the issue does not arise with the jacket parts. It is a flaw in the combination of shirt/pants or undershirt/underpants layers. Usually it isn't noticeable unless these are used to create combination pieces.

ah that would be why I dont see it then, since I always use the jacket layer too

I've been thinking about this more. If this is an sl bug (and I'm not saying it's not), why don't I see the gap on all pants, shirts. I went through my inventory and tried on a bunch of clothes and some had the gap and some didn't. Some of the things I made have it and some don't. I guess it's really not all that bad, as I never noticed it on the clothing I've purchased before, but now it's all I can see when I look at my own. I guess one good thing came of this, I learned how to use the .tga file with an alpha channel.

Edit:
Found this while I was doing more searching
https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-9530

I guess it was more noticable since I'm working on a black dress. I will try the jacket layer and see how that works. Thanks for everyone's comments! Seems like a pretty simple fix by LL. How annoying.

Update:
Tried the jacket and it worked like a charm. No more gap! Thanks everyone!

yes.. I hate that gap too.. that is why I always use the jacket layer for tops if I am making tops and bottoms together, it makes them meet up well. but the jacket layer has it's own lovely tweaking isses lol

I have also had this problem in making my own clothing and when I've purchased clothing from others. I hate spending Linden only not to wear the item because of the gap. I have found an easy fix. It seems to be a problem between just the shirt layer and the pant layer. If you make the item into a jacket layer instead you don't see the gap as long as you your original texture goes beyond the borders of the uv map as it should anyway. Only problem is you can't wear another jacket layer, say a coat over a mini. So sl really needs to fix this problem with the shirt and pants layer gap.
