When is the best SL time to download?

I have made over 50 textures in RL, but every time I try to download, Sl tells me that "there are problems with the system, please try later". My down load list is piling up hugely! Sometimes SL lets me download one texture at a time, but has been refusing to bulk download for several weeks now!

Is there a good time to try? I am in England, so Sl is generally 'quieter' when I am online; I have tried getting up in the middle of my night to download with no luck. I know it has been the holiday season, but this has been a problem for the last month or so.

I am keen to download these new textures and start using them: am I doing somthing wrong?

You mean upload, no download, right? Uploading means sending something from your computer to another. Downloading means pulling something from another computer onto your own. What you're trying to do is take a texture that is currently on your own hard drive, and send it to the SL server, which means you're uploading. Or am I misunderstanding you?

In any case there is not "correct time". Performance will be best when there are relatively few people online at the same time, but it sounds like that's when you're working anyway. There's no "wrong time" though.

My guess is you're having network problems on your end. While uploads do occasionally fail in the manner you describe due to problems on SL's side, that's not the norm. If it's happening to you almost every time, something is definitely wrong. Have you tried contacting tech support?

It's also possible the problem is somewhere in between you and SL. If LL tech support is unable to resolve the problem, I'd suggest you talk to your ISP.

Also, pay attention to the LL blog every day. There have been numerous incidents in the past few weeks which have caused all manner of in-world problems. Perhaps you just had the unfortunate timing of trying to upload textures during each of these incidents.

Thank you, Chosen Few! Yes, of course I mean download when say upload, (or vv)!
Sorry, I am such an inept beginner....

I was wondering, I suppose, if other people have been experiencing this problem too. My ISP connection seems pretty good compared to some of my friends, and it may just be that I have been trying every time LL has a system problem, which is why it is so frequent! But I shall try to work out how to contact the LL Tekky Gods about it too, unless any are kind enough to notice this thread...

BTW, I have gone through every texture I have made and given it 'share with group', plus copy/mod/transfer permissions. I am really very confused about this, but as far as using my own textures to create items to sell, have I done that right, please? I found that things I had made with no permissions did not allow me to modify them after I had rezzed them again. Will this solve that problem?

Sorry to sound so confused, but I am trying to learn, honest!

I almost never change my texture permissions from the default they are uploaded with, even when I'm using them on items I'm making to sell. Only if I want to put a texture into a notecard or give it away do I change the permissions. I change my prim and clothing layer to copy, or mod copy depending on what the item is and I've never had any trouble editing anything if I've had to rerez it. Are you using prims of your own making, or altering something pre-existing?

Hmmmm, thank you for your kind comments. I make my own prims, starting from scratch, and with my new building, i have started from a prim with mod/copy/transfer pemissions, as with all the textures i use now.

...and I have tried to upload (download?) textures into SL every hour for 12 hours today, even in different locations, with no luck at all. I have sent in a ticket to the Tech Support Gods, so I shall have to await their reply patiently...

So everyone except me can upload textures properly???? All the time????

Sighs.
