Search these forums for advice on making latex... The problem is that there is no such thing as a latex texture. What makes it look like latex is the pattern of highlights and shadows caused by external lights. If you look closely at the best furniture and clothes, you will see that lots of the wrinkles and folds are actually painted on by the artist, and not caused by the lights in SL. So, for example, if you have a shirt that looks great on a big breasted avatar, it will have big shadows and highlights in all the right places. If you put the same shirt on a small breasted avatar, it will look all wrong, sort of like those novelty T-shirts that have a naked woman painted on them. Try putting a sexy female skin on a male avatar, and you will see what I mean. So, back to search....there is a long thread here somewhere that discusses this in gory detail such as can only be supplied by a professional Photoshop guru that has way to much spare time... regards, lee

Using GIMP

Yes, you can do this using GIMP.
Basically, a shadow is a little darker, and a highlight is a little lighter. You can do this using dodge/burn/overlay/spraypaint or lots of other similar tools.
Good luck.

My friend was telling me about this thing called Lighting in Gimp that makes raised white lines. Not sure if it would help.
