Hi all, i've scanned the forums and known issues but haven't come up with anything that describes what i'm seeing since the latest update...if i've missed something sorry about that. What's happening is that some of the textures on wall vendors (plain prims with contents set for sale) are flickering out and being momentarily replaced by another texture in my inventory that isn't even close to the original..an ad of a girl wearing silks becomes a bedspread texture that is also in my inventory, turns black on and off, then goes back to what it should be. It's not just me that is seeing this, others are as well, seeing the same *wrong* textures that i am. i upload and use 24 bit targas, have done nothing new, and this started happening right after the update. We've reset the sim several times, emptied my cache, relogged and so on. Still nothing...Any ideas?

I haven't seen this bug myself (yet), but it sounds like the cause is beyond your control. To be safe, it might be wise to uninstall and reinstall SL, but it sounds to me like the problem is server side. You are ending up with the right texture in the end, right? So, it's not the end of the world, just an annoyance.

Graphics card driver?
05-01-2007 07:54
Kalli
My problem after the previous 'upgrade' was that all textures set at 'bright' flickered - drove me crazy till I realised what was happening... thankfully the problem was solved by downloading the latest driver for my graphics card... maybe that's worth a try in your case?

Make sure you don't have two copies of the same vendor in the same spot, showing different textures. Lag can do funny things...

Now that i think of it, the textures that are changing from one to the other and occasionally showing nothing but colored pixels are the ones set to full bright. i checked my graphics card for an update but it's current, i'm using a ATI Radeon 9600 XT Open Gl video card on an ibook G4. Thanks for the answers so far, going to try to continue to figure it out...it's not the end of the world, but makes being in world particularly unpleasant with constant strobe like flickering here and there.

I fixed that issue on my screen by turning OFF the option "Enable OpenGL Vertex Buffer Objects" under the adv. graphics tab in preferences.
Hope that helps if the graphics driver upgrade doesnt.

It sounds to me that something is amiss in your cache and that its simply pulling the wrong texture to display.
Try clearing your cache.

Are you on a Mac? This seems to be a bug affecting a lot of us using Macs. Happening to me on two different computers, as well as with other Mac-using friends. You'll see a thread on this on the Mac feedback forum.
Turning off Open GL or the other vert-someting thing does not seem to make a difference here (on three different mac models). Neither did cache clearing or reinstalling.

Yup, try turning off the OpenGL buffer objects.

I stand corrected. To me, it had sounded like the server was goofing upon calling for the right texture assets. Sorry my theory was wrong, but I'm glad you got it worked out. Hopefully they'll implement a patch soon so you can use VBO's.

I've been having a similar problem with the past SEVERAL updates.. (couple of months at least) It seems to have gotten worse and worse with each update. With mine, there is crazy bright flickering randomly all over the screen. Sometimes in radiating patterns, sometimes just horizontal-like lines.
I haven't taken note if this is only for "bright" objects. My first thought was my card, but its less than a year old, and every other 3d program I run looks just fine.
I've upgraded drivers, completely removing them... I have uninstalled and reinstalled SL... all to no avail.
I unchecked the option "Enable OpenGL Vertex Buffer Objects" like has been suggested, and this fixed the issue IMMEDIATELY!
I just looked "vertex buffer objects" up on google.. and apparently VBO is a method of improving texture rendering. I remember the FirstLook version of SL is when I first started noticing this problem...with that version, they had said they had improved texture renduring.. thus, for some reason, this option doesn't seem to be very compatible with my nvidia 7300 video card.

FYI, Kalli, you're not going crazy (and thanks for posting this, because I thought I might be going crazy myself hehe). I was seeing this too, but only on my husband's computer. Hopefully the suggestions posted here will work...as for me, I fixed it by setting my own PC back up and now I just avoid his - Rachel Darling
