Hello, I wanna creat some skirt for myself. I know the textures are finished in photoshop, but how to creat the prim skirt that the textures are applied to in the world. Im just new to design in the second life. any suggestions are very appericated. ![]() Hi Kelly! You'll need to work with the flexi prims and basically stand on a posing stand then place the prim "panels" around your torso/waist/hips...in the position you want them. I use the Fashionetics scripted device to create my skirts because of the control & ease that I have in creating my skirts and gowns...but you may try Searching for LoopRez by Ged Larsen (I hope I spelled that right!)...it's a neat device that functions the same way as the Fashionetics in that you simply put the skirt panel into the Looprez thingy (edit window > Content) and tell it how many panels to make, the angle...etc. Here are some basic steps to making the skirt to get you started: Things you need to know about the flexi: -Only 3 prims can be made flexi: Box, cylinder, & the pyramid -Flexi=phantom (always, even if you are not wearing it) -You cannot attach anything to the flexible end of a flexified prim. This means that one end will always be hanging loose. How to flexify your prims: -Rez a prim (one of the aforementioned types) -In the Edit menu to the FEATURES tab -You will see a box that allows you to check for flexi or un-check..check it. -There are several options by which you can control the flexi (probably not in the correct order): Softness (how firm or wobbly your prim will be) Gravity (how much it will or will not react to the downward force of gravity) Drag (how quickly it will snap back to its original position after being moved) Wind (determines if the prim will or will not react to the wind) Tension (how tense your prim will be... DUH) Z,X, & Y Force (determines the force placed upon the prim on that axis) -The size, cut, and length will vary the reaction the settings will have upon your prim, so play around with these until you find the flow you like -When you're done placing the panels around yourself, stand up -Holding down the Shift Key click on all of the panels choosing the one in front last (this will become your Parent Prim) -Name the skirt, right click and take a copy into your inventory, then right click > attach > Torso and choose where you'd like the skirt to be on your body. -Adjust it so that the next time you wear it, it will be in the proper position Texturing the prim: -In the EDIT menu click on the Texture tab (if it isn't showing click the MORE button) -You will see a thumbnail for TEXTURE and one for COLOR -Click on the TEXTURE window and your inventory will open to your Textures folder -Click on the texture you want, then click SELECT -To preview your prim in the texture you are selecting, make sure the APPLY IMMEDIATELY check box is...well checked -Color is basically the same way -You can also determine if your prim will be SHINY (the drop down menu), or if it will appear to be lit up in the absence of light (BRIGHT) -You can also add BUMPINESS to it to give it the appearance of having more depth. Hope that helps. Enjoy! ~Ari |

HI!
I use the loop rez, there is a free and paid version available. If I recall correctly the loop rez comes with instructions on how to use it to make a prim skirt . As far as attaching, I prefer using the stomach to the pelvis because I think it moves with the body better. Keep in mind that when you attach the skirt it will need some rotating and adjusting to place it corectly, most likely it will attach upside down hehe. Also you should make whats called glitch pants, which are basically pants made with the sl sliders and textured the same as your skirt. This is because some AO's, or even walking and sitting, will make your legs stick out of the skirt and the glitch pants help a bit with the illusion the skirt is still on your leg....only a bit hehe its not perfect. This blog by Natalia has a wonderful tutorial on how to use the loop rez to make prim skirts...in fact she has great tutorials on how to make pretty much anythng hehe. http://slnatalia.blogspot.com/2006/12/day-97-making-flexi-prim-skirts-with.html Hope that helps. ![]() Polly |
