After a few days of dinking with flex prims, I've come to some conclusions.

Conclusion One: Whoever made it so that you couldn't select the base vs. flex end of a cone has an personal issue against designers. They're probably snickering in their Starbuck's as they read this.

Conclusion Two: Without a great deal of experimentation so you know what each prim's softness/gravity/wind settings should be beforehand, you're faced with creating a series of flex prims, trying to link the floppy little devils in a semi-accurate way and THEN discovering that it was all wrong. Unlink the entire bunch, change all the settings, relink.

Conclusion Three: Those designers who are charging $400 to $700L for a good flex skirt (as opposed to quick-draw crap) earned their money. I will no longer complain about the prices being charged for flex prim skirts -- or any outfit involving a number of linked flex prims.

Linking prims used to be something of an exact science. No longer. Now it's more of an art -- and an exercise in mind-numbing patience.

My opinion/responses to your conclusions, if you'd like them.

Conclusion 1: I believe this is why they implemented the taper instead of the old top-size.

Conclusion 2: This is what "Edit linked parts" was made for, in the edit window you'll find it's checkbox below the Select Texture radio button. click that then you can select individual prims of a linkset.

Conclusion 3: *shrugs* I wouldn't know anything about that.

=)

Edit: also, since you'll be editing linked parts, you can link up your prims before turning them flexy, thus achieving better accuracy.

No you cannot. That's the problem. Once the prim is linked, the "Features" tab is blanked out, even if you Edit Linked Parts. You must unlink completely before adding flex.

I couldn't believe it when I found out that every skirt I made needed to be reversed because the base was on the bottom side of the skirt instead of top for flexiness. Oh well I still love them and thats all I'm wearing now. Just a lot of time to update everything.
I'm more worried about hair, what is up with no flexiness for the Torus. I want some bouncy curls!!

What's up is your free CPU and frame rate. A flexible, cut, twisted torus would bad. A head with 200 of them.. no thank you.

Conclusion One: *snickers at you* It's not hard to fix.

Conclusion Two: Wow... you didn't bother to test it first? geez...

Conclusion Three: It's not hard.... it's simple as making a 3 prims chair. Heck, I wouldn't want to pay more than 100$ for a skirt that has flex and texture, no big deal. -_-

And... yes, I would like to see torus have flex, as well with sphere also.

Nepenthes Ixchel... you need a better PC. Don't whine about good stuff killing you... It's kinda like youre telling Linden Lab to throw flex away as it is a waste of time. Shame on you.

I'd be surprised if the sim would survive long enough to find out.

not sure about the policy on reviving old topics, but I have something to add here,
regarding bouncy curls, what would hapen if you adda a spiral hair texture with alternating full alpha and hair strpes to a flex cylinder or cone? (I just got this idea now, have not tested it yet)

Once you've gone flexi, you can't go back.
