I am making pedicures and they look fine on the skin i have, then a friend with a different skin shows me hers and how they are super misaligned on the last two toes. Do toe placements and toenail placements vary that much from skin to skin? I've imported 5 attempts and each seems to vary on different avatars. can anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong? I would reeely appreciate it.

You're not doing anything wrong Gloss. The foot design from skin to skin is very different. I used to leave my skins with the default toenail placement, but that just doesn't cut it any more. Almost all skin designers are now tweaking the feet for better realism. So, it's going to be next to impossible for a single person to accommodate all the varieties of feet in SL at this point.

Maybe several skin designers would be willing to accomodate an industrious tattoo artist and release toenail alphas for makeup placement on the skins. When I release my GX skins I might consider doing that. I'd need to think more about that after I see that generalized textures are going to be added to SL's features. Still, the task of designing THAT MANY varieties of textures for each skin is a production artist's nightmare!

OK good. I'm not imagining things then. lol. OK well I made 4 different pedicures to fit four different feet shapes for 3 of the skins I own and one for the default. We'll see if that makes people happy or not. :-)

Namsorr, I am just a noob user...please explain what a "generalized texture" is? I would like to know more before I vote on your proposal.

It was suggested in Proposition 14 (seen in the voting section of this site) that instead of having limited layers for tattoos (1 for each body section) and clothing (4 upper, 3 lower, and 0 head, not counting gloves and socks), that SL have freeform or generalized layers for tattoos and clothing. This means that multiple layers can be applied to any existing layer type such as tattoo, undershirt, pants, etc. This would allow skin designers and tattoo artists the ability to layer skins with multiple tattoo layers independently of one another (Mr. X's skins could be layered with Ms. Y's makeup and Mr. Z's tattoos). No longer would it be neccessary to ask other designers for thier full permissions textures in order to combine skins/tattoos/makeup. We would see a lot more layering of transparent textures with this feature, and a lot more capability to mix and match across the board. That is how I understand Prop 14 to work if implemented.

I hope that explains it a bit better for you than what is posted in the proposal/voting section.

You and me both (and every other skinner and tattoo artist). I couldn't tell from the response to your question in the hotline from a few weeks back how exactly that will work. If people can stack an unlimited number of textures in the tattoo slots, does that include textures that are embedded in no mod skins? Would skinners need to sell raw textures instead of premade skins? (never going to happen). We really need to get some specifics and an ETA because it's making it very difficult to plan new products and services.
