Ok... so say I want to make a full-body texture of umm.... polka dots. I make a nice little polka dot texture, and apply the same texture as a tattoo to my head, upper body, and lower body. The textures don’t repeat evenly across the body – the head texture is smaller than the upper body, and the upper body is scaled slightly different from the lower body.

So I’m assuming I need to make textures that are scaled differently for each portion of the body. Does anyone know an approximate ratio I should be using?

Does this even make sense? Because now that I re-read what I’ve written, it looks like I smoke crack.

The pixel dimensions of the actual texture maps won't make any difference except in the clarity of the texture. What needs to be different is the scale of any texture details or patterns relative to the square image area of the texture. Does that make sense? The upper and lower body textures are fairly consistant (aside from the back of the upper body being a bit smaller than the front. If you were trying to make something consistant between the upper body and the head, you'd want the polka dot pattern for the head about 1.5-2 times the size of the upper body polka dots... in other words, there should be half as many polka dots in the square image area for the head than for the upper body.

Thank you Chip, that makes perfect sense.

Have I told you lately that you're my hero?
