Can any body explain how to make a shaded texture for say a window? Like a stain glass effect where you can see throught the glass colors.
Ive got the hang of Alpha channels in a way and can cut out textures etc, but if anybody a can show me the way I would be so greatful!

If you haven't already, read through the sticky thread about alpha channels at the top of this forum.
The short answer is that the alpha channel represents transaparency as a grayscale value. Black is completely transparent. White is complete opaque. Shades of gray in between are semi-transparent.

Zed, I've had a small amount of success by simple means. For example, if you have a photo of a stain glass window, typically it is taken from inside with the sun/light source at the back. Take this photo into PSP or photoshop and then make a copy of the layer. This copy you then make grey-scale after which you play with the contrast and brightness. When it is fairly contrasy, ctrl-A will selecto the whole image ready to paste into the alpha channel. Then that's it. Save in the normal way as TGA and pay your 10L$ for the upload. It gives a pretty good effect without careful scuplting and painting of a bespoke alpha channel.
Hope this helps......... Bea

Oooooooooooops.... Forgot to say: You have to invert the image before copy/paste to the alpha channel. Silly me. Bea
