Anyone have a bra/bikini top template they care to share? I have managed to make everything under the sun except a decent looking bra lol. Any help would be much appreciated. LOL I tried this once...asked for unwanted unused templates for PS so I could practise etc... Im learning Photoshop but templates are a WHOLE new ball game to me.. I'm afraid the feedback seems to be 'practice practice practice' as people here have all been were you & I are now and there are no short cuts... For example...I would LOVE to know how to copy the stitching from a pair of photographed jeans...and apply that to a lower body template..as i know here & now...each detailed pair of jeans ive seen in SL is produced from a digital image ...maybe added some brush heads...a transparent color layer to give it a diferent color...and 'bobs your uncle' as we say in England. But no body likes to share tricks of the trade as at the end of the day and whether people wish to admit it or not...todays noob designers could be tomorows designer competition and NO ONE is gonna give you a helping hand up the same ladder they are all trying to climb.. There are some exceptional people here Robin is one..who will gives & give and help selflessly with tutorials for photoshop...but to my knowledge there isnt ONE single Template/photoshop tuturial...maybe one but the link was dead when i tried it a few weeks ago I too cant do a bra...hell I dont even know how to free hand draw in photoshop...there are no general tutorials about working with clothing templates... I would PAY some-one to goto Yahoo IMs...and we each go through the step by step designing of 'said item' I had to admit to myself a long time ago...the only thing that prevented me from succeeding was my lack of patience...i want to know how everything beautiful in SL is created...and i want to know NOW...and i loose my patience far too many times. Its a fact SL was marketed for some time more towards the creative players...people who already enjoyed either profesionaly or recreationaly designing...and so many here...came with pre gained knowledge...and SL was just a fantastic place to unleash their skills & artistic creations..and to add a pot of gold to that hobby must be amazing.. Then there is a much lesser % who sweat & toil and ask many Questions and learn hard to come up with some decent stuff. But i think theres a shift of new players...who arent the same breed as the original old timer-designer types.....and like me & you...they strive to be able to create something as wonderful as the things they see in the store windows... But it takes months and YEARS to get that good...and more patience that I appear to have LOL Im sorry I wish I could help...i would if I could...but i cant...but if YOU know how to copy & paste a photo of a bra you find online...into your working layer over the template...wouldnt that be a good enough guide? I dunno i may be talking out my ass...i sometimes do ![]() _____________________

I'm afraid the feedback seems to be 'practice practice practice' as people here have all been were you & I are now and there are no short cuts... I've been in the same place I am with Photoshop right now, when I used Dreamweaver, Poser, TrueSpace, Bryce 3D or GMax. Every complex, flexible, powerful piece of software has its own learning curve. Sections like this are a gold mine of information, but it is still true that the only way to learn is to practice. Prepare to be shocked ![]() Stitching using Brushes and Paths in Photoshop Know what the really funny/odd part of that is? I'd never thought to Google on "scrapbooks" -- but it turns out that scrapbooking websites are a goldmine of free techniques, applique and textures which also work in SL. But no body likes to share tricks of the trade as at the end of the day and whether people wish to admit it or not...todays noob designers could be tomorows designer competition and NO ONE is gonna give you a helping hand up the same ladder they are all trying to climb.. I don't feel that here. Folks like Robin and Chip and Chosen Few and several others are always free with their time and advice. But it still comes down to how much time and energy I'm willing to invest myself in absorbing the tools and tricks in Photoshop. I have the willingness. I'm trying to find the time ![]() There are some exceptional people here Robin is one..who will gives & give and help selflessly with tutorials for photoshop...but to my knowledge there isnt ONE single Template/photoshop tuturial...maybe one but the link was dead when i tried it a few weeks ago I had the same problem. I've collected dozens of good individual tutorial links on PS, but in the end none of them were really "Start from Square 1, here's how you do it". So I went to Amazon and ordered a couple of used books to start as reference. I'm still reading online tutorials, and I'm still practicing. Did I mention I'm practicing? Im sorry I wish I could help...i would if I could...but i cant...but if YOU know how to copy & paste a photo of a bra you find online...into your working layer over the template...wouldnt that be a good enough guide? My best suggestion is this. Search on the keywords "Poser" and "free". Add in whatever you want, "lingerie", "bra", "textures", etc to those two words. There is a vast amount of stuff out there that almost fits the Second Life templates. You have to do enough manipulating, resizing and adjusting that you don't actually end up with the original designer's work but I would still be extremely careful to make sure the person who created the original pattern didn't mind if you were planning to use his materials in Second Life. Heck, he might even be in Second Life himself. A little courtesy and honesty on this bit will go a long way to protecting the integrity of all clothing designers in SL. _____________________

Yep, thats me too! LOL And I started off ok and now am I in a slump and ready to just create Q's Dollar Store since I can't seem to make anything I am really happy out right now. I didn't have a CLUE how to do one single thing in Photoshop until almost a month ago, so I know I need to be proud of what I have done so far and I need to have PATIENCE. That becomes difficult when your favorite designer is Neph from Pixel Dolls LOL Cindy, thank you again for posting such great links! Your help has been wonderful! Keep plugging away guys, we'll get it down-pat in no time ![]() _____________________

I have to say that practice is the most important part of creating anything using photoshop or the other programs. When I first started I spent a month just trying to figure out how to use it. Lillybeth, you're right there are no quick and easy basic tutorials on just how to use the tools that are set in your lap. And although I believe I now make some quality clothing, there is still tons about PS that totally eludes me. I'd say about 3 times a month I find or learn something new. When that happens, I'm like a kid at Christmas lol.
But I did read every tutorial offered on these forums and the ones in game. Printed them out, studied them, studied the difference in technique, asked a ton of questions in this forum and finally found something that worked for me. There were plenty of days I closed PS in total frustration swearing that this wasn't for me. But at some level the challenge kept me going. The request for a bra template was just that - a request lol. One thing that I do admit to myself is that I can't be good at everything or maybe I should say I don't have to be good at everything lol. Someone posted a panties template once that I was able to modify and use so I decided to throw out the question about bras. So far nothing I've designed has required one (aren't SL bodies great!). And while I'm here let me thank all the wonderful people who take their time and offer advice, suggestions and support on the forums! So Thanksssssssssssss |

Yep, thats me too! LOL And I started off ok and now am I in a slump and ready to just create Q's Dollar Store since I can't seem to make anything I am really happy out right now. I'm in the same boat. But I know what the problems are for me: (1) Lack of skill to take an idea from my brain to a .TGA file at anything close to a 1-to-1 ratio of 'concept' to 'reality' ; (2) Limited experience manipulating and attaching prims in order to go outside the basic template; (3) Impatience ![]() I'm planning to break through my own personal slump by just browsing through my stack of clothing catalogs whenever I need an idea. I don't aim to 'steal' or plagiarize -- I can sometimes find several outfits that all give me an idea for my own creation. Maybe that idea is nothing more than a strategically placed bow or a nice texture. I've also found that there are certain types of clothing that just work better in Second Life than others. I have seen *very* few miniskirts that looked good on an avatar, due to the way the miniskirt pattern flares so suddenly just below the hip. The most ingenious way around this was a dress I purchased that actually used a shorts pattern and added a hollow prim between the legs to give the 'skirt' look. Pants work much better in SL than skirts seem to. Cindy, thank you again for posting such great links! Your help has been wonderful! Keep plugging away guys, we'll get it down-pat in no time ![]() You're welcome, Dear ![]() _____________________

I have seen *very* few miniskirts that looked good on an avatar, due to the way the miniskirt pattern flares so suddenly just below the hip. I agree that those prim attachments are great but they give me a problem with certain movements. But my suggestion to everyone for skirts and actually other items of clothing too at times is to make a body that enhances the skirt. I have at least 3 "skirt" bodies. They have varying sized butts and hips depending on the skirt. If you haven't tried that, give it a shot. |
