Hey everyone , I have been reading a lot of posts about Photoshop CS4 Extended and I want to know how this software would aid in the making of skins , I would say I have High Intermediate knowledge of Photoshop CS3 Extended and I have made skins before , but how would the new features in CS4 aid the design of a skin?
Or should I just stick with CS3?

Thank You :)

You can import the meshes into CS4 and work on them directly as 3D models, similar to Zbrush. In addition, you can flip back and forth and work on the individual layers in traditional fashion, or on the 3D model. It's fricking awesome.

When I tried making a skin in the past, my biggest issue were the SEAMS (of course, lol). CS4 pretty much makes this a thing of the past, thank goodness. It gives me the will to try making a skin again, lol. I'll be happily painting, cloning, and stamping over those nasty, nasty seams in the future. <3 There's probably a lot more new/improved stuff in it, but for me, that's going to be the biggest thing. Painting directly on the model is LOVE.

The upgrade to CS4 is worth every penny. The ability to paint directly on a model with Photoshop's complete toolset at your disposal is... well, I can't think of a word that adequately describes how great it is. I've always hated 3D painters because until now there hasn't been one with image editing tools in it that rivaled Photoshop. But now Photoshop itself IS a 3D painter.

That said, there are still a few kinks they need to work out, but certainly no showstoppers. Just make sure you've got plenty of RAM.

In addition to the 3D paint tools, you'll also find that the new improvements to the cloning, dodging, and burning, will be most helpful for skin making.
