At the risk of starting another one of those stupid "Gimp Sucks" vs. "No It Doesn't" dialogues, I just wanted to let people know that Gimp 2.4 is now available at www.gimp.org

Release notes are at http://www.gimp.org/release-notes/gimp-2.4.html

Some of the new features that jump out at me include :

- scalable brushes
- support for Photoshop .ABR brushes
- zoom in/out on filter previews

Happy image editing...

I like it. I have been using Release Cand. 3.

Another good thing is that the menus have been somewhat rearranged so that they are not quite so bonky.

I've been using GIMP 2.2.17 and been tempted to download 2.4 since I've read it's got a few more features and a more user friendly UI. But, I have a question, if anyone has the answer..........will all the patterns I've made using 2.2 still be available to me if I switch to 2.4. I've made a ton of them and though I don't use them everyday they do come in handy when I'm playing around at making new textures.

Thanks. :)

Looks like they've made a lot of positive improvements, judging by the release notes. I'll have to give it whirl when I've got a little time.

If, by patterns, you mean tileable textures that you can use with Bucket Fill and the like, then yes, everything that you have created will be available. After all, a pattern is just another image file.

Don't you dare! You already answer all the questions about Photoshop. Leave the rest of us a few GIMP questions to answer.

OMFG! I downloaded the new GIMP version on Saturday... its now Friday- and for a change I have been creating more in GIMP than I have been playing in SL time wise.

Its is SO much easier to use- and a heck of a lot closer to Photo Shop.

Best improvement... the fact it now supports .abr brushes- woot!!!! FINALLY I can use the good stuff!

As I mentioned above- I've had it almost a week and I am still excited about it *grins*.
