Hello,

I tried to follow the "watermarking" thread, but it doesn't really apply to what I need atm.

Can someone explain to me how to watermark your sculpt textures?

Sofar what I know is you make the water mark on a separate layer and I "think" that it goes on an alpha channel? What's next and what format do you save it in?

Thanks :)

Oh...I finally found the right thread...thanks anyway

What puts sculpt maps at risk is that they show up in the edit object dialog at actual size making it simple for someone to take a screenshot of it. You can get around that by adding an alpha channel to the sculpt map. SL only used the color information for making the sculpt object, but the alpha will change how it displays in edit object. If you put an all black alpha on the texture it will show up in the edit dialog as a checkerboard.

Make sure some portions of the alpha channel are TOTALLY transparent where you are applying the visible watermark. Save the file as 32 bit TGA, then upload it. If you don't make portions totally transparent the watermark can be completely removed.

In photoshop (6) I go to Channels tab, create a new channel (alpha 1) and there paste my logo and text. Then I save it as tga 32bit most of the time.

Since I sell mod/copy/trans sculpties as well, the watermark and logo helps people to get back to me, second in my alpha channel I got the 'no resell' and 'no repackage' message. When a reseller starts reselling my work, customers rather quickly come to me to tell me about it, and already succesfull filed dmca complains, where linden took down shops of content-thieves.

And it prevents print-screen theft of the sculpties.

I use the Secondlife release candidate that allows lossless sculpt uploads.

But be prepared that several clients will get back to you, since they think the sculpties wont work, if they see the copyright text. And you got to explain them, that they can use them as any other sculpt-texture, since alpha channels are not used for sculpties (at the moment).

Quarl Linden said, if in the future alpha channels ever will be used in sculpties, there would be an option to flag it on or off. That prevents sculpties becoming useless when then alpha channels will be used, and thousends of sculpties got watermarked alpha-channels.
