I was thinking about Painter the other day. I remember there were things for creating a bunch of swatches from images, selections, and various other places. I also remember that the palettes that it created were absolutely huge. Stealing fifty colours is a bit much when you only need a dozen. And cutting down on swatches in a big palette can get ugly in Painter. Maybe things have changed since I last played with Painter (about 3 versions ago).
Then I got to playing with bubble sorting in Photoshop. I tossed in my own things and got to sorting. Sort values by hue one way, then sort by luminosity the other. Smooth things out with Gauss/Median. Very interesting.
One thing I'm in the habit of doing is keeping a custom palette for a given job. Sometimes this is on a seperate layer in the working document, and sometimes in an entirely different document. I haven't really heard anybody talk about these kinds of things on these forums, so I thought I would toss up a taste of palettes made from sorted fleshtones.
Just a little something to dink with if you haven't dinked with these kinds of things. Maybe come up with your own system and work it into your flow.
