Once land has been raised, lowered, smoothed, roughed up, etc., is there a way to put grass back on the land without applying a texture to an object? I've got the land sloping the way I want it to, but it's basic dirt now. Suggestions? Thanks.

Prims. Textured prims. If you raised your terrain above the height where land in your area shows grass, it's your only option. Terrain textures are defined on a sim-wide basis - no parcel-level control at all.

If you own the SIM, you can change the altitudes at which land textures are applied. Its in REGION/ESTATE and the TERRAIN tab. Otherwise, use prims. large gently rounded and flattened prims work well.
