I have some furry 'skins' that a friend of mine and I created for use with a DAZ Studio figure (Furrette 2 and Furraldo 2). I would like to import them so they can be used in SL.
Now, I realize the UV Mapping for most DAZ and Poser figures is different than what is used on the SL Avatar Manequins that you can import to DAZ or Poser. But is there any utility or process that will easily convert a skin from one figure to another? The only thing I have found so far is an app named Wardrobe Wizard, that works with Poser primarily to convert clothes to fit one figure if they were designed for another. That looks useful, but I don't know that I want to spend $40 USD or more for something that only might work to convert these skins.
Any ideas? I have access to Poser 5 for both Mac and Windows and to the current Mac version of DAZ Studio.

Ceera, I don’t think you can export skins from Poser or Daz Studios? I know that you can import the SL mannequin into them. All I use them for is to see how clothing looks on the default SL avatar. However, I recall Chip, Chosen and others saying that they aren’t good for painting on clothes. I would think a skin would be the same? Jen

Hey Ceera, why don't you give wardrobe wizard a try and let us know if it works. You can download a free demo trial version here. Good luck hun!

in the Poser/DAZ world, there is a program called Universal Texture Converter. Basically it works on plugins - the author (??) gets the UV map of the figure, makes it into a plugin, then it coverts the skin from one figure to another. At the moment, it is used for converting between Daz figures, Victoria, Michael etc. BUT a plugin could be made to convert to the UV map used by the SL manniquins (if there was enough interest). My Avie uses a Poser skin, but I had to cut it up and squish and stretch it to get it to fit onto my SL figure. UTC would (could) do this automatically. http://www.daz3d.com/shop.php?op=itemdetails&item=1212&cat=131

Thanks Ivan. But according to the website, the WW demo only works on un-morphed Poser 4 and Poser 5 male and female figures. I don't have any skins for those to test with.
As for the Universal Texture Converter, they don't support Furrette and Furraldo either, so neither end of the texture conversion would be supported by that product.
Guess Starchaser and I will just do it the hard way, building new skins on the SL templates that Chip and Robin have produced. The time spent doing that will be lest costly than either software fix, neither of which is certain to work.
At some point I definitely will get the full version of Wardrobe Wizard. I know it supports Furrette and Furraldo, and can at least be used to convert clothes from a wide range of DAZ and Poser figures to fit my nearly naked 3D Furries! Poor Furrette's closet is so empty, compared to Victoria or even Aiko! But for now, I need to save my money for more highly prioritized purchases.

If you have Poser 6 and the new beta from Phil C (the Wardrobe wizard guy) you can convert the Daz /Poser skins to the SL manaquines. Of code if you are a coder guru you could do it by hand in a cr2 editor or through text but I doubt most people would know how. I used to make skins for sims and Dungeon siege, etc. So when I came here, (via a Wal street journal article no less) I have to start making clothes) I have my poser stuff, so I will find the way. All smiles Thunderclap

Its called clothing designer.
He has it in Beta. I have yet to try it myself, but as I have used his other projects, It should work.

No it actually didn't. I am curious if Ceera ever solved her problem.

I talked with the UTC guy at Daz3d about doing a plugin for the SL avatars. Bascially he thinks he would make no money from the process so won't do it. Specially now that they have released Victoria 4.0... its ALL about her right now. (BTW, they did do a good job with her)

I can tell you about this.
1) UTC is no use. It doesn't even convert between Daz figures and other Poser figures. It is not being supported by its original author. Dead end there.
2) Writing your own module for UTC is not possible.
3) You could, if you had the time and skill, recreate a software tool like UTC that would do the job and support SL UV maps. But this is a major undertaking.
4) Forget Wardrobe Wizard and anything like it. They convert conforming clothing, which is unlike SL clothing. Think prim clothes. No relation to skins.
5) Realistically, there is only one option, which is to sit down with Photoshop and spend a day morphing the skin by hand. I had a go at this and gave up fairly quickly, but if you had the patience and time it would work.
