I am new to Gimp and having a great time learning. I decided to start a group for people in similar circumstance in SL. Join the group: "Gimp" to discuss and learn from other Gimp users.
Sincerely,
Web Magic

I'm a member of a GIMP artists group and they really don't discuss much at all. We get more "Hey, anyone out there?" messages than anything else. I'll join your goup if you will not tolerate that kind of crap.

Oh boy do I remember that feeling. There are many tutorials for GIMP on the internet. You can start with the same site you went to to download the program..........follow some of the links and you'll find many. Another great Google search is "Gorking the GIMP".........an online book that I first used to get somewhat aquainted to the concepts of layers and transparency. There are stickies at the top of this forum that are very helpful even though they are geared to Photoshop..........layers are layers, transparency is transparency. But the specific tools will be a little different. I learned by reading a few tutorials online, skimming "Gorking the GIMP" and reading the stickies in this forum..........then opening GIMP and playing around with every tool it has. I spent hours just seeing what did what and how to organize your work in a logical way (about a month of that before I really started to feel I could do something with it). I struggled a great deal. Then I found a book at Amazon.com titled "Beginning GIMP from Novice to Professional" by Akkana Peck. Best $30 USD I ever spent. Spend a little time learning before getting too serious about a project for SL. It's worth the effort. Good luck.
