Ok, after 8 months of dealing with an intermittent tablet and pen...two of them to be exact, I threw them against the wall. Unfortunatly, the pens did not stick like I had hoped.

I dont want to name names but it rhymes with Shamu Bun........
I love using a pen when it works, so does anyone have any sugestions?
TIA

Only suggestion I have is throw them harder next time. :)

What tablet did you have and operating system and what image editing program?

If it's Bamboo Fun, Vista and GIMP (in that order), I just fixed my problem.

Personally, I would have contacted the company months ago and asked for assistance. If you mean Bamboo Fun, then Wacom is THE tablet company to deal with. I've gotten all sorts of help, and some free replacement parts from them in the past.

Hint: They probably won't be too sympathetic towards an "I threw my pen at a wall, and now it doesn't work" excuse, so you might want to backtrack a bit and discuss the original issue with them. You might be pleasantly surprised by what they have to offer if you present them with the tablet serial numbers.

I just got off the phone with those people less than two hours ago. Nicest, most patient tech (female) I've spoken to in seems like ages. We tried about a half dozen things while on the phone interspersed with friendly chat and got my issue resolved. If you are talking about Wacom.........don't hesitate to call them. :)

Glad to hear the positive responses about Wacom, and yes, its the bamboo fun, vista, and gimp....and CS3, and 3ds, and.....everything. The pen worked for about a month or so with no problems, then everything started getting extremely intermittent.
It would freeze then come back after 5 seconds or so, then it got to the point where it was every 30 seconds. Scouring the intrawebs showed this to be a common issue.
And no, I dont suspect I will get much help for a physically damaged pen...but it did wonders for my mood!
I have one more BF tablet that I am trying again with. Theres no intermittent issues, but now it would appear that a single tap double clicks. Damn addictive pen...YEARS without using one, now I cant live without it! :)

im not sure about the new ones, but my old graphire just had a coil of wire and 2 micro switches inside of it, so unless your inducting massive amounts of electricity (see tesla) or dipping it in liquid its pretty indestructible

the pads on the other hand have plugs and electronics in them (aside from the large antenna) but again if your not taking wire cutters or a blow torch they can put up with alot more abuse than your mouse/keyboard

I had the same problem with hiccups.
After editting a specific gtkgdk library dll, windows xp, gimp and the tablet are working like a charm.

Check this if you want to try it for yourself.

Gimp 2.6 crashes when the Graphire pen in moved in a Gimp image window. OS is Windows XP. Any ideas? This is using the precompiled binaries from http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html.

The hex editing hack I've seen appears to be for a different problem than crashing.
