I'm sure most of you will think this is pretty basic, sorry, but I have done a search first.
I'm learning still, when you have prim, in this example just a cube formed into a shape of an oblong board. Can you apply a texture to just one side? I'm trying to make a very simple picture frame, but of course when I apply the texture to one side, it repeats/shows the picture on the other side.
I've tried and tried to see if I can apply the texture to one side only. If I can't do that, is there a way to get around it?
Thanks for any advice you may give.

In the editor window, see the little radio button on the left hand side called Select Texture? Turn it on, and you can select individual surfaces one at a time for texturing. Click a surface to select just that surface. Shift-click to add additional surfaces to the selection. When a surface is selected, you'll see a white bullseye symbol appear in the center of its applied texture. You can change the texture, repeats, offsets, shininess, etc, all without affecting any other surfaces that are not selected.
Alternatively, to apply a texture quickly to an individual surface, you can simply drag the texture directly from inventory onto the surface.

My way

Do a lot of picture frames - if you want to see examples im me in world. I usually start the same way you are and texture the entire cube with a complimentary texture, then the side that I want the fram on I simply drag my texture to that one side and it only textures that one side. Or you can go into the "select texture" option in edit window and then click the side you want textured - when you see the crosshairs on the side you want you can go to your texture selection box and look up and apply your texture.

Thanks for that Chosen Few, you've made it sound - and it is - very simple. But when you're learning and looking in the wrong direction (I was trying everything under the 'texture' tab) I just could'nt see how it was done. Rod, you've also made it sounf simple.. just a min.. it is!

There are in-world really great tutorials about the building, texturing and scripting. You can try it out at the place itself and they give our notecards.
I am quite new to the forums so I do not know if it is appropriate to give the LM here but I have some of them in my inventory so if you are interested just IM and I will give them to you
