Hi,
I am a texture designer and would love to use one of mine as the texture on the sails of the new sailboat I just bought.....can anyone help me with how to do this?
Thanks....

If the sailboat is not modifiable, you won't be able to change, it but assuming you do have mod rights on it, it's really easy to do.
  1. Upload your TGA file to SL. (File -> Upload Image). This will cost you L$10.

  2. Right click on your sailboat, and select "Edit" from the pie menu.

  3. On the editor window, click more, and then click on the radio button for "Select Texture" near the top left of the Object Tab. This will enable you to select just the sail surface(s) without affecting the whole boat.

  4. Click on the front of your sail to select it. If you want to affect the back of the sail as well, shift-click it to add it to the selection. Otherwise, leave it alone.

  5. Now on the editor, go to the Texture Tab, and click on the texture thumbnail to open up the Pick Texture dialog. Navigate to wherever you stored your uploaded image in your inventory, click on the file, and click OK. The sail should now be showing your new texture.

  6. Depending on the proportions of your texture, and the manner in which the original creator made the sail, you may need to adjust the repeat and offset settings. They're fairly self explanatory. If you want to see the whole texture spread across the sail, set the repeats per face to 1x1. If you want to see just a portion of it, set them to less than one. If you want to see multiple copies of it, set the repeats to more than one. The offset settings will affect how the texture is centered on the surface. 0x0 will originate the texture in the middle; other settings will move it left, right, up, and down on the surface.

  7. When you're done editing, close the Editor window, and you're all set.

That's all there is to it.
