I want the experts point of view about the posibilities for this idea:
I call it the Sharetext system :p

The system allows you to get free textures keys and pay for them by sharing one of your own uploaded textures keys.
At the moment that you share a texture, you receive 1 credit. Using that credit you can “buy” a texture shared by another user. So, you have to share in order to obtain textures with the system

The system stores the textures keys so, you won’t receive the texture as an inventory object. Instead of that you receive the key of the texture and you can aplly it to your prims with simple scripts. Script samples and templates are provided with the gadget

You only need to use a Gadget attached to your interface to interact with the databases.

Advantages:
* Your building costs are reduced. Becose if you use textures shared by others, you save some precious lindens in uploads.

* The system contribuyes to lag reduction. Becose by-re-using the same textures we are avoiding the upload of similar textures for different individuals, reducing the amount of data in the servers and registers in databases.

*You protect your investments. What happends if accidentally or by technical failures you loose a texture in your inventory? Now, if you shared the texture, you can quicly recover its key and don’t need to repeat the upload..

This is not a publicity. Im not trying to sell anything (in fact, the idea is to distribute this for free). I just want to know if there is people that thinks this idea is a good thing to implement or if this has no future becose if there is no people interested in something like this, is pointless for my to continue the improvement.
If somebody want to test the system, contact me and I give you a copy of the gadget for testing it.

I made a change from a Gadget in HUD to an ATM terminal format.

You can test the search ATM for free in Hallasan (88,48).

Just click the "S" button and speak in channel 1 one word like "wood", "fire", "brick", and so so.

Thank you in advance for any feedback.

Won't fly. Why? Free images on the web (royality free) of basic items like wood, hay, fire, water. Heck, I found free denim, crates etc.

i think it would fly because why you can find free images on the web, you still have to upload them.

What would that do to the existing texture artists and suppliers?

I personally don't get the ideal I guess perhaps I am slow.
I don't mind sharing my work but I don't want someone to be able to sell them when I am not yet and struggling. I have been here short while and one thing I notice is people don't seem to care about textures as much as other things. I really don't get why some people treat textures as something less important and less valueable are unwilling to pay for them or take the time to upload their own. It took me 12 hours to work on realistic 3d texture. I know that there are others who spend a lot of effort on there textures. Its hard to make unique textures. It requires lot of time, learning, and effort.
My question is are you planning on charging people for free use of textures?
Just curious.

Given the current state of some SL players trying to turn a buck using any means they can, I think that this system is too prone to collapse from defectors. "Defectors" is a game theory term that describes - in this case - a player who gets keys from the "keybank" and distributes them at will.

This will leave no incentive for others to play by the rules as all keys will be available to all.

Thanks so much for all your answers.

* Regarding existing texture artists and suppliers, I made an upgrade to the system that allows the owner of a texture to sell it thru the system for real Linden money (if a user wants the texture, it pays to the ATM and the money is delivered to the texture submitter), that will create a perfect distribution system for texture artists. The final user can buy free textures using the credits or buy artists textures keys by using lindens. And, becose the system does not allows duplicates, nobody can repost an artist texture as a free texture. Im still testing this so you wont see it in the ATM or the HUD gadget in this current BETA version.
* About the "defectors" problem. Im convinced that is impossible to create a 100% anti-hack/crack system but in the past I created secure databases for RL enterprises to manage lots os critical and confidential data and, until now, I never had a security breach. I can assure that Im trying to use that knowledge in this system but, being honest, I cannot assure 100% security for it and I think nobody can in the same way that, for example, LL cannot assure that nobody will ever hack their databases and take your creditcard info.
Of, course, I understand that you don't know if I am a Deflector myself, but I cannot refute that now. Time will tell. Reputation must be earned.
* There are lots of free texture sources in the web, I know, but the Idea of the system is to save upload money and reduce costs for builders.
* Im not thinking in charging anything for the use of the system. If anyone sometime wants to collaborate with some tip for the maintenance of the external database it will be very welcome. Maybe in the future, the ATM will be sold for a few L$ to cover database/data transfer maintenance but that's something I don't need to do at this time.

I solved a problem in the ATM that caused some messages not being generated to the user resulting in an apparent system freezed.
