I downloaded the sample templates from the website, and also poked around the forums and got a few more, but there's one thing I've noticed about all of them: There's no 'section' in any of them templates for skirts.
So then, how is it that skirts work? Do they simply wrap around the 'cylinder' that is formed by the avatar's body? Or is there some other trick or way?

Skirts Use the Dress template basically, Just the shorter you want the skirt, the shorter you make that texture.

I'm confused by what you're asking; did you go to the SL clothing templates section and download the skirt template? This should give you what you need to make a skirt as a clothing item. You can also make prim skirts if you wish to obtain a different shape than is allowable by the SL skirt clothing item, or to make more complex skirts with multiple parts to them.

(Fun SL History Fact: It used to be that the only skirts that were available in SL were prim ones! We were given "real" skirts as clothing items around version 1.1 back in the late fall of 2003.)

I like your Fun SL Fact -- how appropriate to add one little history factoid of relevence to the thread. I hope this becomes a trend!
