Navels aren't uniform on skins are they?

I was making a belly button sun tattoo with a transparent center for a GF and although I got it centered on my navel with a lot of trial and error (at 10L$ a pop) its too low on her navel.

It looks like navel location is not standard on skins, am I right. Is there any way to deal with this in general or would each one need to be custom?

I am aware of the trick of putting the tattoo image on a prim and attaching it but that seems extreme.

Thanks for any tips, the community here rocks.

There is a small diamond shaped area on the avatar mesh where the navel is intended to go but since it's not actually indented I think a lot of skinners ignore it. I doubt the navels are all in the same spot on my skin (especially my older ones). If you're doing a tattoo as a clothing item to be worn over a skin you might want to grab a few demos and compare. you could always offer three or four different placements to increase the chances that one of them will match up.

Ironically enough, likely best way to get the tattoos and such on the right places and with minimal distortions, is to use glIntercept + OGLE to capture mesh of avatar who's going to wear them, shape, UV map et al... guess just goes to show those demanding to have it locked out of SL period that no tool is "inherently evil", really.
