Creating undershirt tattoo in corel photo-12??

Hiya...
Im trying to make a basic written tattoo for lower back..i have done the placement on the template..but im not sure which layer i need to put the 'mask' on so the background is transperent when i save it as tga and upload to sl.
can anyone help? ta ;)
