What exactly are you asking for, Cal? I take it you've got a piece of lace texture, and you want to put a shadow underneath it, but you believe layer effects won't do the job somehow because the texture will be going "on the avatar". I'm not sure what you're trying to say about how the target destination for the texture has anything to do with whether or not layer effects can be used. What is your hesitation towards using layer effects? Why do you feel they won't work in this case?

Actually I love using layer effects But for some reason, every time I use the shaodw dropoff, it looks great when I'm working on it on PS, but once uploaded, it's gone... Not sure what I'm doing wrong here, probably something so simple that I'm overlooking it, and once somebody points it out to me, I'm gonna pull a Homer, slapping my forhead and going "Duh!) ;p

It's funny you brought this up, because I've been testing the same thing.
I did a drop shadow on some lace and it showed up black. Then I realized I need to isolate the drop shadow and make it grey (semi-transparent) in the alpha to look right, doh.
Is that what you mean?
