In real life I wear trousers & some sort of sweater most days. The free tool does those, hurrah - but I'd like more of a choice between casual and tarty (ahem!) Does anybody know how to make some pants that move when you walk? It wasn't until I looked into fashion design techniques that I understood why I can't find any of them! I imagine they'd be an absolute pig to make ...... There are so many geniuses in this forum, I figured it would be the place to ask! In fact, I appreciate this isn't a shopping forum but I'd be overjoyed to find a store that sells normal-looking, city-type clothing. Then I wouldn't have to learn how to make it Cheers, Cherry.

I don't think I've ever seen pants that use flexi-prims. Have you tried looking at pants created for males in SL? If you try wearing pants for men they automatically resize to fit you. Well, most of the time. While it's true that there is less clothing available to for men, they do seem to have all the long pants.

In theory, flexi pants could be done, how well they'd fit, is another question. I guess you could use hollowed cones, or other shapes with taper, well, just 1 of them for each trouser leg and have them flexified.. would be interesting to try. At least you could get a good laugh, if not a working product.
Then again, because you don't see much of those, I'm sure the solutions were not that good in practice. If they were, the design geniouses among us would've brought them to public already.

Most likely, you would want to combine regular pants with a flexi part near the end, much like the blouses with flexi sleeves that I have seen. That would give you pants with bottom cuffs that sway, while the upper portion (on the thighs) would not.

Even then you will run into issues till really play with settings. Problem is... flexi is just a client side illusion and is phantom, so will flow right thru the body.

I really appreciate your replies: thanks! Turns out Yoko does, indeed, have flexi pants but they're frilly (might get some for parties, though) - and my email to Wendy bounced back with a 'no such account' error. This year's autumn (Fall) collections feature loads of very wide, baggy, tweedy, slouch pants with deep cuffs. When you walk in trousers like that, they don't float but they squelch (?!). You'd need your prim to be soft, but not windy or draggy. Is anyone up for it? There is such a hopeless lack of 'day' clothes for female avatars - I'm sure I can't be the only one that doesn't want to dress like a stripper (on or off-duty) all the time - but does want cooler clothing than the built-in tool affords. If I didn't have a job to hold down, I'd be launching my own line of SL designer rip-offs! Many users in this forum are accomplished designer/builders - and I'm not. So I'm hoping one of you will get on to it ..... failing that, I could always give up my job before they fire me for wasting time in Second Life! Cherry.

Bettie's Has a pair...
09-13-2006 18:12
Hello -
We carry a pair like that. No Cuffs on the bottom of the pants though. It's called Girl Friday II.
It's got a high waist as we model all our clothes against 1930-1950's fashion, meaning that the shirts that accompany it have the button closure for the pants on that layer.
The flexi prim part works and I think it looks good...but I still need to play with it...to perfect it.
Hope this helps.
Ciao- Jacq

Great! Thanks, Whimsicallie & Jacqueline I'll look forward to a little shopping .... when we finally get back online Cherry x edited to add: I did make some cone-shaped trouser leg experiments, and (of course) you were all spot-on. I manged to get legs that looked great as long as I didn't run or jump! (When I did, my pants followed along at their leisure. Very Looney Toonz!) Worked OK with attachments to lower leg, though. I thought I saw a tutorial somewhere on anchoring a flexi prim to a stable one? I got fed up with trying to hook my free-floating legs up to a fixed 'belt' but - if this can be done properly - it seems like a good way to go.
