Is there anyone who could give me direction on designing with GIMP? I've seen the basics but I'm trying to learn how to make ring collars, layering, buttons, lines, shading, wrinkles...more detailed design.

Thanks to all those who reply!

Designing with GIMP is really no different than designing with Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. The tools mentioned in the tutorials and tips are called or named differently but all three have pretty much the same tools available for designing.

A great book to get that will give you all the information you will need for anything you want to do with GIMP is available at Amazon.com. "Beginning GIMP From Novice to Professional" by Akkana Peck. About $30.00 USD.

There is a book online called "Grokking the Gimp." Here is the link. http://gimp-savvy.com/BOOK/index.html. The best thing to do is just Google "the gimp." Do an advanced search including the words "tutorial" and "tutorials." There are a lot of sites with tutorials. Some are better written than others. If you get one that doesn't make sense, just pick another one even if it's on another feature. You will eventually figure it out. If I can, then so can you. If you get stuck or really frustrated, post your questions here.

Then after you get the Gimp basics down, look up some sites for sl clothing tutorials centered on the gimp. Some of these can be found here in old threads.

You don't need a teacher. You just need patience and determination.
