While awesome in its approach, this uses Quicktime movie controls, as already provided to us.
This isn't anything to do with libSecondLife. It isn't a hack in the sense that its modifying the client application. Its going outside-the-box within the tools we're given. Kudos to Kisa. |

You are. And let me kill this before anyone gets excited. She discovered the old language embeded into QuickTime called SMIL. Let me say that it is also used by Real player.
Yeah, everything she says can be done. And it would be more efficient. However the reason it wasn't done in RL and why SMIL never took off is because: A: you are rendering text code through a video player. Back when space was a concern they though that it would be cool. However, proprietary bloatware like QT and Real never took off because of the complex nature of them. (they don't lend themselves to conversion easily) While some would say this is a good thing. I disagree. Information needs be able to converted into any medium to continue to survive. if it gets stuff, it gets lost. The most you can do with SMIL is large amounts of text, image slideshows and recordings of your website. No website on a prim. Just exploration of an obscure language that is deservity obscure. LibSL is the decompling and dissection of the SL client in an effort to debug and make better independant of LL. Being that LL has to maintain everything and has about 20 developers to do it, they have allows those people to do it with the wrath falling on them. My hope is that they discover a awy to get away from Jpeg 2000, and the avatar meshes we have now. Has anyone seen Gears of war? or Fifa 2007? Or Resistance: fall of man? Or do we really whant to continue to design for avatars that look like models who had clothes painted on them? So, Interesting article. Good read. Not the killper app she is looking for and most definately not LibSL or website on a prim. _____________________
