Can Decent Looking Feet Be Made?

I posted this in the Products Wanted section but received no replies.

As a lover of the female foot and toes, I am sorely disappointed at the standard SL fare. Please tell me where I can shop for the more realistic foot or shoes with realistic feet.

I've been looking in world, but no luck. Now, I'm wondering if this is a particularly difficult task or if anyone has attempted it. It seems that this would be a popular item.

My god man, give it a little more than just 49 minutes before you determine you've "received no replies". SL's not even open right now.

And please don't post in the wrong forum.

And which forum would you suggest. Did you even read the question at the end? I think it is legitimate here.

Yes, I read it. It wasn't clear that it was a how-to question at all. I see that maybe it could be interpreted as such, but in the context of the rest of the post, it reads much more like a "where can I get this" question than a "how can I make this" question. The implication of your post was "I asked for this product 49 minutes ago in Products Wanted, but since no one over there replied fast enough for my liking, I've decided to spam the same thing here."

Perhaps that wasn't the message you intended to send, but it's sure what it looked like.

Anyway, to answer your question (at least what I now think you question is), feet are arguably the hardest part of the avatar. First, they're covered by only a tiny amount of pixels from the lower body template, so their texturing will always be of low quality. Second, they're not shaped very well. There are no individual toes. Take your foot, put a big thick wool sock over it, and that's the avatar foot. It's just not well defined, geometrically.

You're not going to be able to achieve dainty, slender, ultra-feminine feet in SL. If that bothers you, I'd recommend steering clear of open toed shoes.

Fargex,

What Chosen is trying to say is that the "foot" portion of all avatar shapes (the natural shape, not a prim AV attachment) is essentially a flipper attached to the bottom of your AV's legs. This is true of male as well as female AV's.

You can rudimentarily adjust the size and shape. But for all practical purposes it's still a wedge shaped flipper. For the most part, the choices are pretty much limited to length and width, and an adjustment for the heel height. Careful manipulation of this can give the semi-cone shape flipper that is used for high heels

A good texturer (and Chosen is one of the best) can make a "sock" layer that defines the toes better, maybe add some toenail polish & a pedicure, perhaps give better shading to give a more curved appearance... but underneath that layer is still the flipper shape. No amount of great texturing can overcome the shape limitation.

Creating good toes on skins is one of the most difficult aspects of skin making. It can be done, and there are some skins out there with very realistic feet, but the way the foot mesh is constructed puts a pretty severe limitation on how good feet can be.

Feet in SL are crude, at best. No getting around that, I am afraid. The only way might be to try to sculpt a foot out of prims, and hide the real foot with an invisiprim, and wear that mess as a shoe.

Sculpting a new foot would be great except overcoming the enormity of skin variations out there, this I discovered in an attempt to create other body parts, there is just no good way to get it to blend across board, at least not that I have found anyway.

Thanks for the replies. I thought this might be a daunting challenge, way over my head.
